Layer upon layer!

Hello all it’s Ali here with you sharing a layout featuring Mister Fox.

JUNE9

I have to be honest when I first opened the box with this collection in it my heart sank! Then I started pulling it apart (not literally!) and realised that there were a host of gorgeous papers and delicious bits and bobs in the Collectables pack (my favourite bit, always!) So, having now discovered that I DID actually like this collection I set to work with a photo of my grandson.

JUNE11

The clear stamps that accompany Mister Fox are the most versatile little beauties! I adore the number border and the arrows and the bar codes are genius 🙂 I started my page using the Mister Fox stamps along with the brilliant Stains stamps.

JUNE13

Then I cut some of the 6.5″x6.5″ paper pad into strips. There are always a load of lovely diecuts in the back of the pad, including the fabulous scalloped bow tie border 🙂

JUNE10

Scrummy diecuts in the Collectables pack too; view finders? Brilliant! You can see just how fabulous the prints in this collection are on this photo.

JUNE12

My final flourishing touch was to add a bow tie from the Collectables onto my GS, a few little Chino Pearls and some stamping using the Happy Snaps Clear Stamp set; this has literally not left my desk!

See it just goes to show that it’s always worth looking beyond the obvious. I should know by now that Kaisercraft never get it wrong and Chrissy knows me better than I know myself! LOL

Thanks for popping in today,

Sly Old Mister Fox

Hi

It’s Ali here with you today.

Mister Fox is not a collection I would have chosen…until I saw it in real life!! Oh my goodness what a diverse and gorgeous lot of fabulousness!

JUNE4

So that set off a chain of thought and once I started playing with it I couldn’t stop!

JUNE1

There is a brilliant sheet of rulers in this collection; each one perforated at the edges for easy separation and a cool finish.  The Collectables are sensational!!! Now you know I love a die cut; but this lot surpass anything I have played with before 🙂

JUNE3

Mister Fox has also got some amazing stamps; bar code sentiments, the best number border and scrumptious arrows!

JUNE2

All in all this has been a revelation for me! Never in a million years would I have chosen a male themed collection and certainly not one with orange tones! However, I can assure you this is a winner!! Try it and see if Mister Fox beguiles you too 😉

Perfect Paint!

Hi it’s Ali here with you today.

I ADORE paint, in fact if someone said to me you can only ever have one medium to play with I would choose paint every time. It is sooo versatile and can transform anything and everything. So today I am going to show what you mean 🙂

JUNE26

All the stars on this layout have been spritzed with paint, and each one is as unique as, erm, the stars in the sky!

JUNE35

Gather your chosen colours. I am using the Mister Fox paper; Powerful and a selection of Kaisercolour paints – Spearmint, Green Grass, Turquoise, Sea Breeze, Sage and Pistachio.

JUNE36

The KC paints are translucent so you could use them as they come and still ensure that the pattern on your paper shows through. I didn’t want a block colour so I mixed each paint with water in a misting bottle (approx 1 part paint to 10 parts water)

JUNE34

I started with the palest colours and built up from there; just experiment until you get a result you like.

JUNE33

This was my rough bit of card to test each of the sprays and I love the result! I will be using that 🙂

JUNE32

Next job was to die cut my stars. If you have a punch use that it will be a whole lot quicker!! The cool thing is that you get to cherry pick the bits of the paper you like the best!

JUNE31

Once they were all cut I glued them in place (just the centre) as I then ran the rows through a sewing machine.

JUNE30

I wanted to do a bit of flicking onto my page and thought a bit of mica spray would be just the ticket but it kind of melted into the black 🙁 Paints to the rescue again!

JUNE29

You want to really dilute the paint to be able to flick it successfully. The KC paint has plenty of pigment so don’t be afraid.

JUNE28

See how much better the mica looks now with a lift of Spearmint?

JUNE27

I didn’t have the right coloured numbers so out came the Turquoise; perfect!

JUNE25

Now all I needed to add to my layout was some gorgeous little Collectables, a fabulous wooden flourish and some gorgeous paper from the 6.5″x6.5″ pad. Job done!!

JUNE24

JUNE23

JUNE22

Thanks for sticking with this exceptionally long post! I hope you agree that paint really is a must have for your stash!

Challenge: Scrap Your Space

Hello it’s Ali with you today 🙂

First off let me just set the record straight; I know that most of you will look at my space and think I am mad! The truth is I can not abide mess, I believe there is a place for everything and everything is in it’s place…except for purple!! The P colour is banned from my crafty space, sorry to all you Indigo/Violet scrappers…..hence the title. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue!

JUNE14

This is how my crafty stash is sorted ROYGB; patterned paper, cardstock, embellishments – if it has a colour then it gets organised. Actually if it doesn’t have a colour it gets sorted 😉

JUNE15

The trays hold all my tools, paints, dies, metallic embellishments, embossing powders and inks. The paper shelf was made by my DH to fit the space; there is a steel strip on the bottom and all my Stickles have a magnet on the base so they hang upside down, primed and ready to go! The jars on the top hold beads, twine, buttons and washi tape. The chest of drawers hold all my punches…yes I do have a lot..and yet how often do you see a punched border on my layouts???? On my desk is my Cricut Explore, Silhouette and sewing machine. There is another desk at right angles to that where I work.

JUNE16

To the right of the cubes (made by DH) is a wardrobe that holds my stickers, stamps, boxes of flowers and ribbons and some of my albums (the rest are in the loft!) I store all my stamps on laminated sheets in ring binders, except for the new ones and they sit in a basket in one of the cubes. The other trays hold all my embellishments (in colour order!) and my brads, chipboard and wood veneers.

JUNE18

I used a selection of Collectables and stickers from Happy Snaps

JUNE19

Hello Sunshine

JUNE20

and clear stamp sets Calendar and Polaroid from the Captured Moments range as well as Mister Fox

JUNE21

I also used the most delicious stamp of all time ever…Tiny Dots.

So that’s my little slice of heaven, I can’t wait to see yours 🙂

‘Happy Snaps’ in a box

Hello all, it’s Ali here with you to share a mini album in a box 🙂

It is, in effect, a concertina album but I have stuck the front and back pages into the lid and base of a little box.

If I had to only ever use one KC collection for the rest of my scrapping days it would be Happy Snaps!! This delightfully bright, vibrant and fun mix of colours and icons is the perfect set for us scrappers, especially with Summer around the corner!

So, what do you need to get started?

Two strips of 12×4″ paper; or you could use Captured Memories cards and tape them together! I used the gorgeous Shutterbug paper.

MAY TUTORIAL

Score it at 3″,6″ and 9″. Yep you’ve guessed it this album will be a 3″x4″ although you can change the dimensions to suit your taste. Fold it up with a valley fold at the first crease.

MAY TUTORIAL1

Washi tape the two strips together so that the two edges butt up to each other. Wrap the tape right around the front and back to make it secure.

MAY TUTORIAL2

Now to make the box. I cut two pieces of card at 11cm x 13.5cm and scored 15mm in from the edge for the base and 13mm in from the edge for the lid. Cut little triangles at the corners for a neat edge and glue the sides together with a wet glue.

MAY TUTORIAL3

Decorate your box as you wish. I cut the hello mat on my die cutting machine using Hot Shot 12×12 paper and chose three of the die cuts from the fabulous Collectables pack. There are a ton of little beauties within that bag!

Decorate your concertina pages, adding photos and ephemera. Then when you’re happy with how it looks, stick the back of the first page into the lid and the back of the last page into the base.

MAY TUTORIAL6

MAY TUTORIAL9

MAY TUTORIAL5

MAY TUTORIAL4

This would be a delightful gift to celebrate a special day; or the perfect brag book! As you can see Happy Snaps is perfect for all those happy snaps!!

Thank you so much for popping in today,

Mixing Up the Media

Hi it’s Ali here with you today!

I adore paints, inks and sprays so I decided to get a whole load out onto my desk and have a play! The Happy Snaps collection is full to the brim with colour, fun and vibrancy so that was the direction I took with my layout 🙂

IMG_7654

I started off with Distress Inks; Mustard Seed, Picked Raspberry and Peacock Feathers swiping them through a couple of homemade stencils cut on my die cutting machine. Then I flicked and swirled some Dylusions Ink Sprays using the stick attached to the nozzle.

IMG_7660

I scraped some white acrylic paint through a stencil with a credit card. Finally I got out my favourite Kaisercolour paints; Sea Breeze and Hot Pink and smooshed (very technical!!) them onto the page.

IMG_7661

I did a bit of gold embossing using the gorgeous stamps in the Happy Snaps collection as well as some stamping in black ink, along with a few stamps from the Polaroid clear stamp set (one of my faves!)

IMG_7658

I cut a strip of the Picture Perfect 12×12 and a border from the Picture Perfect Gloss Paper. The green holey strip came from the fantastic Slideshow die cut paper. I layered them all up to form the mat for my photos and then chose some die-cuts from the Collectables pack and a sticker or two from the Alpha Sticker Sheet; both are must haves in my opinion.

IMG_7657

I had so much fun getting messy! I hope I have inspired you to have a play 🙂

Thank you for popping in today,

Merly Impressions May 2014 Challenge

Hi everybody! It is that time of the month again and we are here to challenge you once more!

Well, the weather is improving and we are all, no doubt, thinking of long evenings, warm days and holidays. With this in mind we are challenging you to create a scrapbook layout on the theme of :

Spring is in the Air

Your layout should include elements that show what Spring is all about – newborn lambs, newly opened flowers, trees coming into leaf, etc. The photos can be taken anywhere – for example, in a garden, in a park or by the sea – as long as they are linked with the theme of Springtime

The final date for entries is the 2nd of June 2014.

One of our design team has created a layout to provide a little inspiration:

It’s Ali here with you today to share my inspiration for this month’s challenge; Spring 🙂 I know that Spring is well and truly here when our magnolia tree is in full bloom. They are a short lived pleasure and within days we have brown petals all over the lawn but it is a small price to pay! it also makes the most beautiful backdrop for photos of my daughters 🙂

MAY Challenge II

I have been playing with Happy Snaps this month; my absolute all time without a doubt favourite!! So how to make this bright and vivacious collection look a little more pink and pastel? Well, as with all KC collections it’s about looking beyond the obvious; what? I hear you cry! Whilst this collection is super bright it also has a pale pink floral paper  that is reflected within some of the other patterned papers.

Click Click - Happy Snaps Collection Click Click

So I started with this gorgeous paper as my inspiration and carried on from there!

Merly MAY 5

The heart was punched from one of the pink flowers on the paper. The ‘love this’ circle was punched from the Snap Shot paper and the heart stamp is from the Polaroid clear stamp set. I also added a smidge of delicious KC lace…I love it! I used a selection of white and pale pink embossing powders and the gorgeous Lattice background stamp – I thought it looked like a bit like blossom.

Merly MAY

More little icons cut from the papers, some vellum die cuts and little pink pearls.

MAY Challenge Title

I cut the title on my die cutting machine and brushed the embossed glossy paper from the 6.5″x6.5″ pad with white paint to tone the colour down as well as highlighting the pattern on the paper 🙂

What does Spring mean to you? We would love to see your layout in the gallery…why not give it a go? The winner of our challenge wins £25 to spend in the luscious Merly shop!!

Thanks for popping in today,

Ali x

Please add your creation to the gallery below before the challenge closes at 1:00pm on 2rd June 2014. We will then choose our favourite layout to win a fantastic prize – a £25.00 voucher to spend on anything you want from the Merly Impressions online store. Wow!

Double Side Dilemma

Hey it’s Ali here today!

What do you do when you love both sides of a paper? As I was looking at the papers in the new Limelight collection, I totally fell in love with Arise, it has a hessian side that looks so real, but then I flipped it and discovered a beautiful text print – I am a sucker for text! Oh no!! I only have one!

Arise - Limelight Collection

There was only one solution, chop it up and use both sides!

APR Tutorial Step 1

I taped it across the back and ran it through my sewing machine.

APR Tutorial Step 2

Next stop, stencil and Distress Ink ‘Mowed Lawn’, and a little flick of ink…of course!

APR Tutorial Step 3

I used another smaller stencil and swiped some paint through it. Whilst it was wet I flicked a bit more ink so that it would meld in with the paint.

APR Tutorial Step 4

I punched some circles out of one of the papers from the 6.5×6.5 pad, and then layered up the same 12×12 print, the punched paper, some lace and did a little stamping with the Limelight Clear Stamps.

APR Tutorial Step 5

All ready for the finishing touches!

APR Tutorial Main

Pretty much everything here is from the Collectables pack, apart from the punched circles and a handful of punched butterflies.

Apr Tutorial Detail

How brilliant does that hessian look?

APR Tutorial Detail 1

Love the way the background text shows through the stamped sentiment.

APR Tutorial Detail 2

A final flourish of twine; another essential in my crafty stash 😉

Hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my layout process. Thanks for popping in today,

Minimal…

Hiya, it’s Ali here with you today 🙂

I have a passion for minimalism in art, home decor and scrapping! I was getting ready to make my layout for today and I got to thinking. What if you were limited to what you could use on a page? For example, if you scrap on holiday, you don’t want to ship your whole crafty stash or if you go to a crop, whilst you may wish you could take it all, it’s not really feasible. So today I am sharing a layout that used one piece of 12×12, some die cuts and white paint. Minimalist Scrapping!

APR Challenge Main

I started by placing my photo and marking it out, then I got busy with the splats! I mixed a lot of water into the white paint as I wanted it to flick off the paint brush.

APR Challenge 2

Oh, I forgot to add the date stamp and ink to the list of supplies, plus a couple of red brads! One of the die cuts in the Collectables is a door with pop out panels – the date has been stamped onto one of the panels – waste not, want not! I also used the door as the base for my photo.

APR Challenge 1

All I did was go through the Collectables pack and choose from all the super duper die cuts; tickets, butterfly, sentiment circle, clock and tag.

APR Challenge

Just noticed a couple of Rhinestones, okay the list is growing but it’s still not much 😉

I really like this layout; because it’s so simple the photo grabs your attention. Amazingly, although when I first saw the Limelight collection I only saw green – it is actually a perfectly neutral palette and would work with anything.

Thanks for popping in today,

Cuts to ‘Die’ For !

Hello it’s Ali here with you to share some inspiration for our monthly challenge; Dies, Die Cuts and Punches.

As you may know, I am in love with the Collectables packs that KC create for each of their collections. This month I got to play with the new Limelight collection. Oh what a beauty!

APR MAIN

I started off by punching around the edge of my cardstock and matting onto a green background.

APR Detail

I die cut leaves out of the Learn 12×12 paper and a title using my Silhouette machine.

APR Detail 1

Then my beloved Collectables were tipped out of the bag. I chose the white flowers to echo the snowdrops in my photo.

APR Detail 2

I stamped three butterflies from the Limelight Clear Stamp Set onto One’s Journey paper. Each butterfly has a different pattern, so they are a super addition to your crafty stash 😀

Looking forward to seeing your take on the challenge. Thank you for popping in today,

Ali x
