Have a Heart (posted by )

With Valentine’s Day approaching, my mind turned to hearts and a treasure box for my daughter to stash her favourite trinkets and possessions. Secret Admirer is perfect for creating pretty gifts.

I used the 6 1/2″ Paper Pad throughout. There are stunning patterns and papers with glossy detail with enough to not only cover a box but go to town with cards and layouts too.

For the base of the box, I thought it would be fun to add some lacing detail. This is really easy to achieve – simply cut out two strips of the hot pink paper and trim so that there is a 2cm gap. Select another pattern to cover the gap. Set eyelets at regular intervals  before taping into position.  Then just thread twine to lace up. One thing to note: don’t set the eyelets too high or you’ll have difficulty closing it.  To keep things neat, I added some fancy trim to the base of my box.

For the lid, I punched a border strip from some vellum which I then stuck into place, pleating as I went. I covered the background with more pretty paper. It’s a good idea to ink the edges for a little definition before sticking into place.

To decorate, I used the Collectables, Paper Blooms , Mini Blooms and those gorgeous rhinestones to give it that added sparkle.

This makes a great gift on its own or fill with chocolates to give to someone you love.

Thanks for stopping by.

Don’t you just love Easter? What’s not to love? Spring flowers and chocolate – oh joy!  Kaisercraft’s Fine & Sunny collection is the backdrop for my Easter layout with its cute rainbows, sunshine and clouds.

Easter layout

Our Easter egg hunt last year was a perfect Sunday morning.  We followed the egg trail at our local National Trust property which was in full bloom with bluebells.

Easter layout snippet 1

I cut out the little Easter eggs from the Fine and Sunny Forecast gloss paper and combined them with die-cuts and stickers to make my collection of embellishments. I made the pin wheel and topped it off with a button and pearl.

Easter layout snippet 2

The fabulous clouds, sunshine and rainbows are just gorgeous.  The chipboard is layered as you can see here making it super-easy to get some dimension onto the page.

Easter layout snippet 3

I adopted a really simple design for the layout which gave me plenty of opportunity to gather my embellishments. I used an old die-cut paper as a template to draw around on my white cardstock.

Thanks for popping in.  I hope I’ve given you some inspiration for your Easter layouts.

We thought you may like to see this mini-book and layout made with the Kaisercraft Hummingbird collection.

The mini-book has been finished with bakers twine, flowers and buttons in colours that match the Hummingbird collection.

Hummingbird Mini-book

A book like this can be made in any size using any papers, maybe even with leftover papers from a recent layout. It makes a great birthday gift (the recipient could even add their own photos) or why not just make one for yourself.

This layout is unusual because it’s A4 sized rather than the more usual 12×12. This smaller format gives a chance to more easily focus on a single photograph.

A Hummingbird Layout

The layout includes lots of details carefully cut out from the Hummingbird papers and layered to give dimension. The small Butterflies are cut from the Flutter Gloss paper and finished with rhinestones.

All comments are very much appreciated.

Here’s something a little different… I decorated this Cigar Box as part of a challenge set by some close friends and decided to use Kaisercraft’s beautiful Bonjour collection to give it a sophisticated look.

I covered the whole box in the Paris paper (reverse), then covered the sides with strips of the Moriesse paper and the top in layers of the Notre-Dame (reverse) and Mairie papers. I distressed the edges of the paper and used one of my favourite tools, the WRMK Sew Easy Stitch Piercer,  to add distressed stitching around the top.

A Bonjour styled Cigar Box

The top of the box is decorated with layers of detail cut from the Mairie and Moriesse papers (some of which is highlighted with Crystal Lacquer). I’ve also used a Kaisercraft Wood Flourish Frame (distressed with an Adirondack Paint Dabber and Gold Perfect Pearl Mist), some Kaisercraft Pearls and a Mini Paper Bloom. I finished the box with a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Keyhole and some Tim Holtz Idea-ology Box Feet.

Hopefully you like my altered Cigar Box and thank you for visiting. Please feel free to comment (and many thanks to everyone who has commented on previous posts).

I changed my mind a few times on how I wanted to decorate this new Kaisercraft Trinket Chest but in the end I chose to use the lovely (and also new) Velvet Ensemble papers.

After painting the chest in Antique White Kaisercolour paint I covered the whole chest (drawers, sides and back) in the costume paper and inked round all the edges to give an aged look. I cut the mask on the lid from the ‘Stage Show’ paper and added a few little embellishments – a feather, a flower and some rhinestones – to it. The Black Organza bow finishes the chest off.

I wanted the feel of the chest to be one of opulence and I hope I have achieved it.

I started this project just before we went to a recent Retreat and managed to get some quality time at the Retreat to finish it off. I have used the new (and absolutely gorgeous) Chapter One Collection to cover the lovely Storage Unit and some of Kaisercraft’s beautiful Blooms to decorate it.

For some time I’ve been wanting to make some storage to hold all my Kaisercraft flowers and Blooms and this unit is perfect since its a good size and I can simply empty out all my half used packets of flowers and Blooms into the drawers.

Chapter One Storage Unit

I used a single sheet of the Chapter One Motivate paper to cover all three drawers. I wanted the design to continue all the way up the drawer fronts and I think it has worked quite well. I used the reverse of the Afresh paper to cover the sides and some black Bazzill cardstock to cover the top. I wanted to keep the unit clean and simple to show off the gorgeous design of the paper so just added a few Kaisercraft Blooms, a Rhinestone flourish and some Wood Flourish Leaves to the top and three Blooms and a rub-on to the bottom drawer.

I used the following products to make the storage unit:

This wonderful Friendship Album was made a few months ago by my daughter for her best friends birthday. It includes pictures and a short story about her friend.

The Mini Heart Album is decorated with Kaisercraft’s Shaken Not Stirred collection which is normally used for masculine projects but, in this case, the mainly red papers have been used to give a feminine effect. Paper flowers and rhinestones have also been used along with offcuts of ribbon to decorate the album rings.

I was looking through some old photographs of relatives and decided that these, taken in the late 50′s, would be fantastic for use in a Display Frame. I used the Kaisercraft Shaken Not Stirred collection because its bold colours and patterns were a perfect match to the pictures.

I painted the frame with Kaisercolour acrylic paint, then a layer of Crackle Glaze and finally another layer of paint – this gave it a distressed, almost leather-like, look. I used some appropriate rub-ons and a tie (tied from a short length of ribbon) to match the “Lads” theme.

This would make a pretty cool gift for Fathers Day coming up in June.

While I was tidying up a bedroom recently I decided we needed something to keep a few bits of jewellery neat and tidy and had a crazy idea of making the Kaisercraft Advent Calendar / Bits’n pieces drawers into a Jewellery Box.

I decided to use the After Five collection as this will match the new colour scheme in the bedroom. I could not find any colour matched fancy hooks to hang the necklaces and bracelets on so decided to cut up some wood flourishes and fix them to the inside of the unit using Crystal Lacquer (which makes a very effective glue). I really like the end result – they are perfect for my little bits of jewellery.

Jewellery Storage Unit made from Kaisercraft Advent Calendar

The drawers are perfect for rings and larger heavier necklaces and brooches – I’ve covered the outside of each one in a strip of paper from the After Five collection and added pearls to decorate them. I left the inside of the drawers plain but you could line them with felt to protect your jewellery if preferred.

I added strips of the Debutante flocked paper from the After Five collection around the edges of the unit and a small vanity mirror in the corner (if you prefer you could add a larger mirror to cover the full size of the inside panel of the unit).

My daughter Merley collects and loves anything to do with fairies hence the fairy themed Advent Calendar I made previously. Soon after I made that I also decided to make her an album to capture some of her favourite fairy ornaments and some lovely little fairy poems.

I loved making this album – it is decorated with one of my favourite Kaisercraft collections – Airy Fairy. The layered butterflies and fairies were cut out from the Sparkle paper so you will need at least three sheets of this paper, but I think they add that extra dimension to the album. I used one of each of the other three Airy Fairy papers.

An Airy Fairy Castle Album

The Lilac Ink Pad was used to ink around the edges of the MDF album. The castle door was drawn with a black drawing pen onto a spare piece of matching card and mounted behind the doorway.
