Mixed Media Cards using ScrapBoys-Industrial Romance

Hi everyone,
Today I would like to share with you a set of three, mixed media cards that I created using the Industrial Romance Collection by the ScrapBoys. I just love the cogs and industrial theme of this collection and thought it would be perfect for a set of heavily clustered, mixed media cards. Many of you would have noticed that I do not usually cluster so heavily in my projects but I thought it was the perfect point in time to push my limits and learn something new. Check out how I went below!

To create these cards, I started with square 3 kraft cards (12.8 x 12.8 cm), 3 squares of Marrekesh Cardstock (12 x 12 cm) and 3 squares of Oatmeal Cardstock (11 x 11 cm). I added the mixed media background to the Oatmeal squares before adhering them to the Marrakesh squares and the kraft cards. Firstly, I stamped the music background stamp in Bark Ink. Secondly, I painted sections with white Gesso with a little bit of orange acrylic paint and Nuvo Crystal Drops- Brown. Next I stamped a mix of the Factory 42 and Time Machine Collections cog stamps in Spiced Marmalade- Ranger Distress Oxide onto the painted sections. Following this, I tinted some Texture Paste with Brown KaiserMist and applied it through the Linear Lines Stencil onto the cards. Lastly, I spray the Brown KaiserMist over the texture paste to finalise the mixed media background.

To begin the clustered sections of the cards, I coloured Cheese Cloth with Black KaiserMist and glued it to the cards. Next I added some fussy cut elements from INDUSTRIAL ROMANCE – PAPER 07, INDUSTRIAL ROMANCE – PAPER 03 and INDUSTRIAL ROMANCE – PAPER 01. Then I added more and more of these elements on top of each other, followed by some yellow and orange Flower Blooms.

To finalise these cards, I added some Wooden Cogs and splattered some extra Brown KaiserMist.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about how I created these heavily clustered, industrial style, mixed media cards. I also hope I have inspired you to have a go at using this stunning collection and some mixed media techniques in the near future. Stay happy, healthy and crafty!
Best wishes,

Angel in Disguise using the ScrapBoys-Industrial Romance Collection

Hi everyone,
I would like to share with you this mixed media layout that I have created using the Industrial Romance Collection by the ScrapBoys. I love cogs and industrial themed papers so this one really caught my eye. I don’t usually gravitate towards orange as a colour so this one was a nice challenge for me.

I decided that I would go for a mixed media background for this layout. I have used the Spiced Marmalade- Ranger Distress Oxide to stamp a mix of the Factory 42 and Time Machine Collection cog stamps. Following this I added some watered down Oxide Ink, Brown KaiserMist and acrylic paint spatters to the background before adhering to a sheet of Marrakesh Cardstock.

Next I took two copies of my photo ( 8.7 x 14.2 cm) and cut the subject from one photo and foam taped it onto the same place of the second photo, creating a 3D effect. I also added the wings from INDUSTRIAL ROMANCE – PAPER 07 between the two photo layers. After adding a Marrakesh Cardstock frame to my photo I adhered it to the centre of my layout. Then I created a layered frame around the layout using fussy cut elements from INDUSTRIAL ROMANCE – PAPER 07, 2x INDUSTRIAL ROMANCE – PAPER 03 and INDUSTRIAL ROMANCE – PAPER 01.

To finalise the layout, I embellished with MINI PAPER BLOOMS – CORAL and Black Rhinestones.

I hope I have managed to inspire you to step out of your comfort zone today and try a new colour in your next project, or just create a project using this amazing ScrapBoys Collection. I hope you are staying safe, healthy and enjoying some extra craft time.
All the best,
Roxanne xX

Flamingo Fun with Sunkissed by Kaisercraft

Hi everyone,

Today I am sharing a fun layout that focusses the pink flamingos and pink flowers of the SUNKISSED Collection by Kaisercraft. The irony of this layout and the photo is that flamingos can’t fly and neither can I, no matter how much we try! I enjoyed adding a couple of mixed media techniques to this layout too. MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft- Flamingo Fun- Picture 1

To create this layout I have followed the steps below:

  1. Cut DAQUIRI – SUNKISSED COLLECTION down to 24.5 x 24.5 cm (keeping off cuts) and distress edges with a PAPER DISTRESSER. Using a blending tool, ink KAISERINK PAD – FLAMINGO though TINY TRIANGLES 6X6 DESIGNER STENCIL down the right side of DAQUIRI and a little bit in the top left corner as well.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft- Flamingo Fun- Picture 2
  2. Colour some TEXTURE PASTE with KAISERCOLOUR PAINT – BLACK 75ML and transfer through the long palm frond in the TROPICAL LEAVES 6X6 DESIGNER STENCIL onto DAQUIRI.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft- Flamingo Fun- Picture 3
  3. Trim COCONUT – SUNKISSED COLLECTION to 30.5 x 30.5 cm, KAISERCARD INK WEAVE CARDSTOCK to 26.5 x 26.5 cm and KAISERCARD LIPSTICK WEAVE CARDSTOCK to 25.5 x 25.5 cm, keep the off cuts. Distress edges and adhere INK to COCONUT, and LIPSTICK to INK.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft- Flamingo Fun- Picture 4
  4. Take all the off cuts and select the widest of each paper. Trim to 24.5 cm long. Rip the edges of DAQUIRI. Rip INK and LIPSTICK in half.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft- Flamingo Fun- Picture 5
  5. Adhere DAQUIRI to LIPSTICK. Layer and adhere the ripped strips on the right side of the layout.
  6. Prepare a photo mat by cutting KAISERCARD INK WEAVE CARDSTOCK to 11.2 x 11.2 cm and the pink striped sheet from PAPER PAD – SUNKISSED COLLECTION to 10.5 x 10.5 cm. adhere to each other and to the layout in the top right corner.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft- Flamingo Fun- Picture 6
  7. Adhere photo with dimensions 9.8 x 9.8 cm to the photo mat. Fussy cut the distinct pink flowers from the PAPER PAD, TUTTI FRUTTI – SUNKISSED COLLECTION, and take them from the COLLECTABLES – SUNKISSED COLLECTION to cluster them in the top corners of the layout.
  8. Further embellish with COLLECTABLES, CHEESECLOTH GAUZE and RHINESTONES – HOT PINK.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft- Flamingo Fun- Picture 10

Double Trouble in Paradise with Sunkissed by Kaisercraft

Hello Merly Impressions fans,

Today I would like to share with you a fun, multi-photo, double layout that I created using the SUNKISSED Collection by Kaisercraft. I went for a fairly simple layout with few layers this time, however I add a little bit of fun mixed media. This is the perfect layout practice mixed media with because most of the back ground is covered in photos and any mistakes with it! Or if you love the background, you can simply use less photos. I have tried to capture a weekend trip to Palma, Mallorca, with this layout.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-Double Trouble in Paradise- Picture1

To create this double layout I have used the instructions below:

  1. Take two sheets of KAISERCARD SNOW WEAVE CARDSTOCK and cut into three pieces 27.5, 24 and 4 cm wide and all 24 cm high.
  2. Take the smallest piece and add a leaf pattern by inking though TROPICAL LEAVES 6X6 DESIGNER STENCIL, using an ink blending tool with KAISERINK PAD – FOREST and KAISERINK PAD – BLUE HAZEMIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-Double Trouble in Paradise- Picture2
  3. Apply Distress Oxide- Lucky Clover, Distress Oxide- Mermaid Lagoon and Distress Ink- Peacock Feathers to an INKSSENTIALS CRAFT SHEET, spray with some water. Dip paper into the ink, repeat until you are happy with how it looks.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-Double Trouble in Paradise- Picture3
  4. Take the two larger SNOW pieces and tape together behind. Repeat steps 3 and 4 on this larger section. MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-Double Trouble in Paradise- Picture4
  5. Splatter with KAISERMIST SPRAY INK – NAVY 50ML.
  6. Take two sheets of MOJITO – SUNKISSED COLLECTION and trim off the bottom strips. From the centre of one, cut out a piece to use as a 11 x 14.1 cm photo frame for later. Tape MOJITO’s together create a double layout size. Using a rounded corner punch, punch the outside corners of the inked SNOW page and the double MOJITO. Adhere SNOW to MOJITO.
  7. Take the pre-prepared 4 cm SNOW strip and adhere to the left side of the layout. To the centre of this strip adhere the bottom strips from DAQUIRI – SUNKISSED COLLECTION and TUTTI FRUTTI – SUNKISSED COLLECTIONFOAM TAPE the bottom strip from MOJITO – SUNKISSED COLLECTION onto the top of the other bottom strips.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-Double Trouble in Paradise- Picture5
  8. Cut leaves from LEMON LIME – SUNKISSED COLLECTION and foam tape the section of three leaves together to the left side of the layout and the large single leaf to the bottom right.
  9. Prepare 4 photo mats with dimensions of 10.7 x 10.7 cm from the zig-zag and green spotted sheets from the PAPER PAD – SUNKISSED. Adhere 4 photos with dimensions of 9.8 x 9.8 cm. Adhere the 4 matted photos to the centre of the layout.
  10. Take pre-prepared photo frame from Step 6, adhere to photo (10 x13 cm) and adhere to the right side on the layout on top of the large leaf.
  11. Take the leaves (with same shape as in Step 9) from the COLLECTABLES – SUNKISSED COLLECTION and cut them from the PAPER PAD – SUNKISSED COLLECTION and TUTTI FRUTTI – SUNKISSED COLLECTION. Tuck and glue them under various photo corners.

Quick and Easy Layout with Sunkissed by Kaisercraft

Hi crafty friends,

Popping in to share an extra layout that I have made using my “left-overs” from the SUNKISSED Collection. I started by fussy cutting many of the elements in this collection and I didn’t end up using them on my first three layouts so I have used them here. I think this is a very basic layout that turned out very effective. If you were to to try out this layout you could add more or less layers, depending on your taste or how much time you have. MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-Quick and Easy Layout-Picture1

To create this layout I have used the steps below:

  1. Take MARTINI – SUNKISSED COLLECTION and trim the bottom strip (keep for later). Ink edges with MINI INK PAD – VINE and splatter with KAISERMIST SPRAY INK – BLACK 50ML.
  2. Cut KAISERCARD INK WEAVE CARDSTOCK 13.5 x 10.7 cm and frame a photo with dimensions of 13 x 10.2 cm. Adhere matted photo the the right side of the pre-formed circle of MARTINI.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-Quick and Easy Layout-Picture2
  3. Fussy cut Leaves and flowers TUTTI FRUTTI – SUNKISSED COLLECTION and matching mini sheet from PAPER PAD – SUNKISSED COLLECTION, also take these items from the COLLECTABLES – SUNKISSED COLLECTION.
  4. Adhere leaves around the printed circle to start giving it a 3D effect.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-Quick and Easy Layout-Picture4
  5. Adhere some of the flowers around the printed circle.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-Quick and Easy Layout-Picture3
  6. Adhere some more flowers.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-Quick and Easy Layout-Picture5
  7. Take the bottom strip from MARTINI – SUNKISSED COLLECTION and adhere about 2 cm from the bottom of the layout.
  8. Embellish with a title from the COLLECTABLES and SEQUINS – TROPICAL SEA.

You are my Sunshine with Sunkissed by Kaisercraft

Hello crafty friends,

Today I would like to share with you a very vibrant yellow and black themed layout that I created using the SUNKISSED Collection by Kaisercraft. This yellow, pineapple patterned paper really caught my attention from this collection, I just had to create something quick and fun with it. This layout could be created with many fun photos but I decided to choose a beach themed one to get into the summer feel, as the weather is warming up for us here in the Northern Hemisphere.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-You are my Sunshine- Picture1

To create this layout I followed the steps below:

  1. Trim PINA COLADA – SUNKISSED COLLECTION to 29 x 29 cm. Ink the edges using an ink blending tool and Black Soot-Oxide Ink or KAISERINK PAD – LICORICE.
  2. Take MINI BACKGROUND STAMP – SCREEN and adhere to an ACRYLIC STAMPING BLOCK. Because all Distress Inks are water based, they do not work well with any acrylic stamp unless the stamp is “dirty” or sanded lightly. To get a crisp image I first ink the stamp with a non water based ink and then directly on top I use the Oxide Ink. This is so the image is crisp but will run when water is added. Stamp along bottom and in the area where you plan to adhere matted photo.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-You are my Sunshine- Picture2
  3. Apply Black Soot-Oxide Ink to an INKSSENTIALS CRAFT SHEET, spray water on top and place layout on top in areas you would like the spattered black ink. Repeat until happy with the effect.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-You are my Sunshine- Picture3
  4. Trim KAISERCARD CANARY WEAVE CARDSTOCK to 30.5 x 30.5 cm and ink edges. Adhere PINA COLADA. Adhere a strip of KAISERCARD INK WEAVE CARDSTOCK (29 x 1.5 cm) to the centre of the the stamped strip. Adhere bottom strip from PINEAPPLE SOUR – SUNKISSED COLLECTION to the black strip with MOUNTING FOAM TAPE.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-You are my Sunshine- Picture4
  5. Take the pineapple sheet from the PAPER PAD – SUNKISSED COLLECTION and use an ink blending tool and Distress Oxide- Black Soot to ink the whole sheet. Use a tissue or wet wipe to remove the ink from the glossy pineapples.
  6. Cut the pineapple sheet to 14.8 x 9.2 cm and frame photo (12.8 x 8.4 cm). Cut two squares from the pineapple paper 3.5 x 3.5 cm. Cut the squares in half diagonally but in opposite directions to always have the pineapples facing the right way.
  7. Cut KAISERCARD INK WEAVE CARDSTOCK to 15.6 x 10 cm and adhere to photo stack. Cut two 4 x 4 cm squares of INK and then diagonally. Adhere the pineapple triangles to the INK triangles and FOAM TAPE one to each corner of the layout.
  8. Take the black striped sheet from the PAPER PAD – SUNKISSED COLLECTION, ink edges and adhere to the middle of the mixed media area of your layout. FOAM TAPE the matted photo the striped sheet.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-You are my Sunshine- Picture5
  9. Fussy cut the yellow flowers, white frangipanis, yellow butterflies and blue-green fronds from TUTTI FRUTTI – SUNKISSED COLLECTION, and its mini version in the PAPER PAD – SUNKISSED COLLECTION and PINA COLADA – SUNKISSED COLLECTION. Embellish layout with cut elements and COLLECTABLES – SUNKISSED COLLECTION.
  10. Splatter layout with KAISERMIST SPRAY INK – YELLOW 50ML. Further embellish with glass domes and a title- I have used a laser cut word that I have sprayed with KAISERMIST SPRAY INK – YELLOW 50ML and covered in Glossy Accents.MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-You are my Sunshine- Picture10 MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-You are my Sunshine- Picture9 MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-You are my Sunshine- Picture8 MIDT2020-03 Sunkissed Collection by Kaisercraft-You are my Sunshine- Picture7

Virtual Crop Sketch – 4th April

Hello,

Karen here.  I hope you are all keeping safe and well and Roxanne and I are bringing you something a little different today.  We have each designed a sketch and then used each other’s sketch to produce a page.

sketches

I took inspiration for my sketch from this page, that I made last year.

Hi everyone, I am hoping you are all staying safe and healthy- Roxanne here to show you what I created using Karens lovely sketch.

April 4th Sketch Challenge 2020 RS Picture1

I used the MORNING DEW collection by Kasiercraft for this challenge. I choose the stones (BREATHE – MORNING DEW COLLECTION) as the background because our dog, Pluto, loves to pick up stones and carry them around. I then couldn’t resist using the spotted page (INHALE – MORNING DEW COLLECTION) to compliment Pluto spots! When comparing my layout to Karen’s sketch I have added an extra border, moved the horizontal strip from the top to the bottom and I have still used three sets of flowers but the larger one is not clustered.

To create these flowers, I have used the set of stamps from the Magenta Collection that we received at the Merly Impressions Retreat 2019. April 4th Sketch Challenge 2020 RS Picture3

Hi Roxanne here,

Below is a layout I created last year, so took inspiration from it to produce my sketch.

69653220_525521741527484_2912111135199068160_n

Below is the sketch that I came up with, it is somewhat simplified compare to the original layout but I think this makes it easier to move around.

90891601_4166888703336728_6579402208230506496_o

I then provided this sketch to Karen and she has created a beautiful layout using this sketch. I hope to see many other gorgeous layouts using this sketch over the next two weeks!

Karen here – I have used this sketch and Ladylike to make my page.  I turned her sketch a quarter turn to the left and used portrait photos rather than landscape ones.

As we said last week – you can interpret the sketch any way you wish.

Have fun!!!!!

Inspiration for Chrissy’s Virtual Crop Sketch March 28th

Hi Chrissy’s Crafty Challengers,

Karen and Roxanne from the Merly Impressions Design Team have some inspiration for this weeks sketch challenge! We have both had a go at this challenge and here is what we have created:

Karen – I have chosen this sketch from the two Chrissy posted and I have used the Native Breeze collection for this page.

91553402_10220583476204324_4031833599169789952_n

I was amazed how different this page looked to the others I made with this range, just goes to show how versatile Native Breeze is.

Super Star

As you can see I swapped out the hearts for stars and cut double the amount so that I could fold the top ones to give dimension.

Super Star detail 2

I also swapped out the two smaller photos for some journaling, not my handwriting but written with my Silhouette – I wish my handwriting was that neat.

Super Star detail 1

I am really excited to see your versions of this sketch – remember you can flip it, make elements larger or smaller – make your photo larger or smaller (as I have) and add or remove elements.  Just go for it and make it your own x

Roxanne- I decided to go with the sketch that has the large heart, see below. I choose this one because I have many “love” photo’s of me and my fiancé.

90851723_10220583476244325_1381129760041598976_n

Many years ago I bought a lot of the MINT WISHES Collection by Kaisercraft and carted it all the way to Germany with me. So I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to use it! I also found this snow photo that I absolutely adore and thought it suited perfectly. I have titled this layout “Snow Love”.

Picture1

I had been saving this stunning Uniquely Creative laser cut heart for the perfect project, which just happened to be this one! I have sprayed it with KAISERMIST SPRAY INK – WHITE 50ML to make it sparkle.Picture4I have used a large lace in the middle of my punched strip with some ribbon as the central strip from the sketch.
Picture3

Amongst my stash I found many Die Cut leave and branch pieces, as well as this beautiful circle! I clustered these die cut pieces with the collectables in a similar place to on the sketch.   Picture2

I have also includes some white felt snowflakes and some blue-gray painted wooden snowflakes into my clusters for extra dimension.
Picture5

Finally, I have embellished with my favourite- RHINESTONES – SILVER.

We hope we have inspired you to have a go at this wonderful challenge ! As Karen said, you can stick strictly to a sketch or you can change it up as much as you like. We saw many gorgeous designs entered into last weeks challenge and hope to see just as many, if not more this week!

Stay home, stay safe and crafts lots!

Kookaburra with Native Breeze by Kaisercraft

Hello Crafty Friends,

Today I would like to share a very Ozzie themed layout with you. I have created it using the NATIVE BREEZE Collection by Kaisercraft. The main theme of my layout is the Australian native bird- the Kookaburra. This bird has a very distinctive call which sounds like laughing. They are white and brown with gorgeous blue/green patches of features in the wings, as you can see clearly in the featured photograph. My lovely and very talented friend Gaby took this stunning photo. I have also focussed on the Ozzie colours for this layout- go green and gold!
MIDT2020-02 Native Breeze by Kaisercraft - Kookaburra Image 1

To create this layout I have followed the steps below:

  1.  Cut a strip of KAISERCARD CINNAMON WEAVE CARDSTOCK to 30.5 x 21 cm. Punch along the top and bottom using your favourite border punch. Measure ~0.5 cm under the pattern and create stitching holes using the SEW EASY STITCH PIERCER. Use teal coloured DMC thread and sew through holes. Using a PAPER DISTRESSER to distress the unpunched edges.
  2. Take SUNDOWN – NATIVE BREEZE COLLECTION and trim the bottom to 30.5 x 12 cm. Distress short edges and adhere ~1.5 cm from the stitching on the bottom of the cinnamon strip.
  3. Splatter KAISERMIST SPRAY INK – GOLD SHIMMER 50ML onto the prepared strip.
MIDT2020-02 Native Breeze by Kaisercraft - Kookaburra Image 2
  4. Take the bottom strip from BANKSIA BOUQUET – NATIVE BREEZE COLLECTION and adhere across the top of the brown strip ~1 cm from the top stitching. Take a yellow and a white sticker strip from the STICKER BOOK – NATIVE BREEZE COLLECTION and adhere to the top of the large green section, on both sides.
MIDT2020-02 Native Breeze by Kaisercraft - Kookaburra Image 3
  5. Take PINK PROTEA – NATIVE BREEZE COLLECTION, remove bottom strip and distress edges. From the middle, cut a piece from the middle 12 x 9.5 cm to frame your photo later. Using spare cardboard or foam tape, adhere your pre-prepared strip ~3.5 cm from the bottom.
MIDT2020-02 Native Breeze by Kaisercraft - Kookaburra Image 4
Take photo with dimensions of 15.2 x 10.2 cm frame with pre-cut Pink Protea piece, KAISERCARD CINNAMON WEAVE CARDSTOCK (16 x 10.8 cm), SUNDOWN – NATIVE BREEZE COLLECTION (15.5 x 11.3 cm) and white wattle page from the PAPER PAD – NATIVE BREEZE COLLECTION (11.3 x 16.5 cm), distress all framing pieces. Adhere matted photo to the layout ~3 cm from the top and 5.5 cm from the left of layout. I have also added a Uniquely Creative laser cut word to my photo frame. I have prepared it by inking in KAISERINK PAD – CHOCOLATE and covering it with Rangers Glossy Accents. MIDT2020-02 Native Breeze by Kaisercraft - Kookaburra Image 5
  6. Take 2 x ~40 cm teal coloured DMC thread and pull out each individual thread, curl them up and glue around the edges of the central green strip of your layout. Also add some to the top left of the photo, as a base for a small embellishment cluster. Adhere a second  BANKSIA BOUQUET – NATIVE BREEZE COLLECTION bottom strip (with distressed edges) using foam tape to the bottom edge of the green strip, to help hold the thread in place.MIDT2020-02 Native Breeze by Kaisercraft - Kookaburra Image 6
  7. Fussy cut the Kookaburra birds and matching leaves from NATIVE FLOCK – NATIVE BREEZE COLLECTION. Take these same items from the COLLECTABLES – NATIVE BREEZE COLLECTION. Adhere in the areas where the curly thread in located to help hold it down further.
  8. Embellish further with RHINESTONES – NAVY and the Kookaburra CURIOS – NATIVE BREEZE COLLECTION.

  9. Additionally, I do plan to sell this layout to raise money for helping Australia recovery from the nasty bushfires that ravaged a lot of the country over summer. If you are interested please contact me at roxiiscraftstudio@gmail.com, via Facebook at roxiiscraftstudio, or at the March Crop where you can also see it in real life. Just a reminder that I am also selling my cards which can be found at Australian Bushfire Recovery- Card Sale on Facebook Xx.

I hope you enjoyed reading all about how I created this very Australian themed layout!

Happy Crafting!
