Introduction

Welcome to the web page for the Merly Impressions Summer 2013 Scrapbook Retreat. We will keep this page with details of the Retreat as and when they become available. Please keep returning frequently to learn more about all the exciting things we have planned for our Summer 2013 Retreat.

Where and When

The Merly Impressions Summer 2013 Retreat is being held at:

Wyboston Lakes, Great North Road, Wyboston, Bedfordshire, MK44 3BA

on:

21st to 23rd June 2013 (start time 6pm Friday, finish Sunday 3pm)

The Wyboston Lakes Hotel is located between Bedford and Cambridge close to the A1(M) and is easily accessible from the north and south. The hotel lies within 350 acres of rural landscape with facilities including:

  • A fabulous bar lounge and restaurant overlooking the Wyboston Lakes
  • Free WiFi
  • An 18 hole golf course (additional charges apply)
  • On-site Harpers Health Club with swimming pool (additional charges apply)
  • A day Spa including treatments (additional charges apply)

Delegates will be able to enjoy the extensive grounds around the hotel and the lake during the Retreat which is being held when the days are at their longest.

Arrival Time & Directions

You can check into your bedrooms at the Training centre hotel Accommodation from 3pm onwards. Feel free to explore the Wyboston lakes grounds while you have time.

Please be in the Training Centre Hotel Bar at 6pm, we will come and collect you all soon after this time when we have set everything up. Our training rooms won’t be available to us until about 5pm (then we have to set everything up, but hope to have it all done by 6 to 6.30pm).

We have the whole building to ourselves – we have 6 rooms in total and the breakout area where Tea, Coffee, Juices & biscuits will be available 24/7. On Saturday we have a little something extra available to.

The Accomodation

Delegates will be staying in well appointed bedrooms with en-suite facilities, TV’s and other modern amenities. The package will include dinner on Friday evening, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday.

The Event

The Retreat will be held in two large air-conditioned rooms in a quiet part of the Wyboston Lakes complex. Each delegate will have their own sizeable scrapping area which will be prepared before arrival on Friday.

There will be an adjacent area with comfortable seating and freely available tea and coffee. Optional technique classes taught by Emilie Chamel will be held in an adjacent room and there will be a well stocked Merly Impressions shop (selling all the latest products from Kaisercraft, Tim Holtz, WRMK and others) close by.

Above all, we want our delegates to have a relaxing, fun and memorable weekend. We’ll be creating some great scrapbook and beyond-the-page projects using the latest Kaisercraft products. As well as the projects included in the chosen option, which will include full detailed instructions to allow you to craft at your own pace, each delegate will also receive a very special project designed especially for the Retreat and the chance to purchase additional layout kits.

We’ll also be spicing up the weekend with raffles, challenges and treats. We hope everyone will enjoy what should be a wonderful weekend.

The Projects

Each delegate will be provided with all the products they need to complete four projects as follows:

  • For the Scrapbook/BTP option – two BTP projects (Projects 1 and 2) and two scrapbook page layouts (Projects 3 and 4)
  • For the Scrapbook option – four scrapbook page layouts (Projects 3, 4, 5 and 6 below)

For sneak peeks of the projects see below – at the current time we only have peeks of some of the projects available but we hope to have sneak peeks of the remaining projects on this page before the end of May. Once all the sneak peaks are available we will give you a complete list of all the extra things you will need to bring (like tools, journal pens, etc).
Each delegate will also be supplied with a special additional project with which you will be able to create something to remember your weekend by.

The Scrapbook/BTP Option

Delegates who purchased the combined Scrapbook & BTP Option will receive four projects – the two BTP projects below (Projects One and Two) and two Layout Kits from the following section (Projects Three and Four).

Project One – Family Photo Storage Box

The first project for the BTP option is a Family Photo Storage Box. It uses Kaisercraft’s gorgeous 75 Cents Collection, a quirky and vintage looking collection with rustic design elements plus butterflies & flowers in shades of teal, toffee & black. For this project we have used three photos – for the oval photo on the box lid you will need a photo 5cm high x 4cm wide, a few millimetres over would be fine as it will sit behind a frame. The other two photos are the same size (7cm high x 4.5cm wide) and fit inside the cut out apertures on the box. I have used sepia photo’s for this project. You will get everything you need to compete this project in the kit as well as full detailed instructions. We will of course bring along our completed box as well.

Project Two – Frame & Stand

The second BTP project is a Frame & Stand. We have used the lovely Flora Delight Collection which features exquisite floral patterns with a colour palette of purple, pink and green. We have also used a paper from the “Base Coat” Collection. You will need one photo for this project measuring 13.5cm high x 10cm wide (we have used a coloured photo for this project). Again you will get everything you need to complete the project in the kit.

The Layout Option

Delegates who purchased the Layout Option will receive the four Scrapbook Layout projects below (Projects Three, Four, Five and Six).

Project Three – “To Love” Layout

This layout is called “To Love”. I have used the gorgeous Porcelain Rose Collection which features floral patterns and birds in bold colours of red, blue & pink. There is a small amount of stitching and stamping on this layout so you will need to bring a sewing needle and a black ink pad. The photo size is 14cm wide x 12cm high – I have used a coloured photo for this layout, a black & white photo would also suit. Extra’s you will need to complete the layout are: Sewing needle, black ink pad, Crystal Lacquer or Glossy accents or something similar (optional). Everything else you need to complete the layout is included in the kit.

Project Four – “Picture Perfect” Layout

This layout is called Picture Perfect. I have used the lovely Miss Empire Collection (due to be released in June) which features floral patterns and has a vintage, steampuck feel to it in colours of browns, oranges and greens – a very versatile collection. The photo size needs to be 8.5cm wide x 12cm high, the photo sits behind a frame so cannot be any smaller than the size stated. I have used a coloured photo for this layout, but a sepia photo would also suit. Extras you will need to bring to complete the layout are a brown ink pad for inking the edges, edge scraper tool and crystal lacquer or glossy accents (optional) & a journal pen. Everything else you need to complete the layout is included in the kit.

Project Five – “Happiness” Layout

I have called this layout “Happiness”. I have used the lovely Elegance Collection which features exquisite floral patterns in a sophisticated colour scheme of gold, white, emerald and silver – as soon as I saw this collection I knew I had to use it for the retreat. There is a small amount of stitching on this layout so you will need to bring a needle or if you prefer you could do faux stitching. The cotton, along with everything else you need to complete the layout, will be supplied. The photo size is 14cm high x 10cm wide – I have used a black & white photo for this layout. To complete this project you will also need Crystal lacquer or Glossy accents (or something similar), a journal pen and a sewing needle.

Project Six – “Best Time Ever” Layout

This layout is called “Best Time Ever”. I have used the funky Hopscotch Collection which features fun shapes & friendship quotes in bright funky colours of pink, green & blue. There is some stitching on this layout so you will need to bring a needle. There are a few photos on this layout – you will need three photo’s of 8 x 8cm square which I have printed out a few millimetres smaller and then rounded off the corners before layering them onto more photo paper so it looks like there is a border around them (optional, to do before the retreat). I have also created a little booklet of photo’s for this – you will need four photos of 15.5cm wide x 7.5cm high, (3 of the photos will be trimmed down by about 3mm). Extras you will need to bring are a needle and journal pen. Everything else you need to complete the layout are included in the kit. There are many photos on this layout so it would suit an advent, a holiday or something very dear to you. My layout is all about “Merly Impressions” how it started, the Merly Crop and us.

Emilie’s Class

Emilie Chamel will be running a special additional class throughout Saturday in three or four seatings. The class will last 90 minutes so there will be plenty of time to complete the project. The cost for the additional class will be £15.00. Please bring cash to pay for this on the day (you can still decide if you want to do it or not at the retreat). We will have enough kits for everyone, if everyone decides to do it.

Emilie's Retreat Class

Above is a sneak peak of Emilie’s class layout. It is quite a simple layout but it is bright and feminine. There is no real theme, just a female friendly layout. The title will be up to you as you will make the letters out of painted cardstock. At the centre of the layout you will need a square photo between about 9cm x 9cm or 10cm x 10cm.

What equipment should I bring ?

Here is a list of things you will need to bring to the Retreat:

  • Paper Trimmer/Guillotine or your chosen cutter.
  • Craft Mat.
  • Ruler.
  • Corner Rounder.
  • Sharp Craft Knife.
  • Scissors for “Fussy Cutting”.
  • Pencil.
  • Sewing Needle.
  • Edge Scraper Tool.
  • A selection of journal pens (I used mainly Black, Brown & Pink).
  • A selection of Ink Pads, for inking around the edges (I mostly used Brown & Black).
  • Crystal Lacquer/Glossy Accents or similar (optional).
  • Rub-on Tool (I like to use tweezers)
  • Your chosen adhesive (for example, double-sided tape, glue pen, foam Pads, tape runner, etc).
  • A Camera.
  • Clear Stamp block (one around 15cm by 7cm & another around 11cm x 11cm).

If you regularly go to crops or classes then bring the tools, adhesives, etc you like to work with. There is no need to bring any paper stash or projects as the kits should keep you going for the whole weekend. If you do manage to finish everything, we will have the extra kits (the ones that aren’t in your option) to purchase. We will also bring our entire Merly Impressions shop with us and we will have May & June’s Kaisercraft Workshop Magazines, which are full of inspiration.

Photo Printing

There will be a photo printer and computer available for delegates to print any additional pictures taken during the weekend. We will also have a small stock of glossy photo paper available for people to use. Please don’t rely on this to print the images for your projects – it should be used for odd photos (maybe taken during the weekend) since time and consumables will be limited.

Additional Equipment

There will also be a large selection of tools available for delegates to use. They will include a Cricut machine (with a selection of cartridges), a Big Shot, a Grand Calibar, WRMK Sew Easy and Sew Stamper tools, a selection of Sizzix and Spellbinder dies, various punches and much more. And we’ll be available to help if anyone needs any advice on how to use the tools.
