Hello, it’s Ali here for today’s tutorial 🙂
I was lucky enough to be given the fabulous ‘Hidden Treasures‘ collection to play with. It is a gorgeous muted colour palette and is cram packed with …..erm, little treasures!!
As soon as I saw The Collectables I knew I wanted to make something pretty with the Russian Dolls. Between you and me this was originally meant to go into DGD’s playroom but I have kept it for my ‘play’ room!!
I love banners (you may have noticed!) so what better way to show off this beautiful collection 🙂
First off, I chose 3 of the 6.5″ x 6.5″ papers to suit the dolls.
Next, time to make the base of the banner.
The easiest way to create the triangles is to find the mid point on the 6.5″ x 6.5″ paper and cut corner to mid point on both sides.
Now for the best bit!! Start rooting through the fabulous Collectables and trying out different layers. You will see at the end I didn’t stick with this plan!
As this is such a vintage collection I wanted one of the layers to look like fabric. I cut the paper with wild abandon (i.e. not straight!) and then distressed the edges. I misted the paper until the fibres had softened up and then crumpled it.
Here it is when it had dried.
And I liked it so much I did another piece on this triangle 🙂
I also added some circles of contrasting paper in the corners of the triangle and punched holes ready for the ribbon.
And here it is with seam binding, ready to hang up in my craft room!
and some more close ups:
Thanks for popping in today,
