One of the reasons that I started scrapping was to pass the family history onto our children as well as documenting their own childhood. Unfortunately, I don’t possess many old photos of my parents or my own childhood so I don’t create many heritage layouts. The handful of original photos are therefore even more precious to me.
This original photo of my Dad was taken as he joined the Navy at a ripe-old age of just 17. Although I don’t know very much about his service career, what I do know I documented and tucked it in behind the photo.
The Remember Me collection is designed to complement heritage or Service photos. The deep reds really help old photos pop. The Collectables have wonderful die-cuts which are elegant and often poignant.
To give my layout a very masculine feel, I distressed the background paper. A simple rip below the photo helps to draw the eye to the photo. I distressed the edges and added a little ink before loosely sewing together with twine.
To add texture and age to the layout, I scrunched and inked the edges of the background paper. To make the ‘rusty’ letters, I inked each letter with Distress Ink in Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain. I then added Distress Powder in Vintage photo and heat set. Finally, I randomly inked the embossed letter with more Walnut Stain and Black Soot to give it more depth.

Thanks for popping in.
