Merly Impressions September Challenge

Hey everybody! It is that time of the month again and we are here to challenge you once more!

Personally I love to use odd sizes photos in my scrapbooking. You will rarely see me scrap a 6″x4″ shot and at the moment I am madly in love with the square formats of Instagram and Hipstamatic (both smart phones app that give a square vintage effect to your photos).

But I know that most scrapbookers still love to use the standard format of 6″x4″ so I have decided to challenge you and our wonderful DT to use other sizes/ format of photographs on your pages! So the theme this month is:

non-6″x4″ photos!!!!

And here is what our DT created to inspire you:

The Take Note collection from Kaisercrafts contains some paper and stamps with the phrase ‘Life is all about the pretty little things’ – well scrapbookers don’t need to be told that do they? I used that phrase as the inspiration for this layout. This month’s challenge to use different sized photos went so well with the phrase and lent itself to a layout using an assortment of little photos of ‘pretty little things’. Rather than print and cut lots of little photos, I used Photoshop Elements (PSE) to place my photos in a grid on one document and printed it as one larger photo. If you like this look, and don’t have PSE, you can download Picasa, free from Google. Picasa has a collage facility that does all the hard work for you! Xxx

I am an Instagram girl! Since getting my new phone I use it all the time to capture those every day moments. I love the different filters that are available, that can completely change the mood of your picture. Now that you can pick photos up from Facebook and print them off there’s no stopping me!

In my layout I used three panorama photos taken with a phone camera. It is so much fun to use some other sizes of pictures than those normal 6×4″s!

So I hope this challenge inspires you to try new photo sizes! We can’t wait to see your creations!

Please add your creation to the gallery below before the challenge closes at 1:00pm on 12th October 2013. We will then choose our favourite layout to win a fantastic prize – a £25.00 voucher to spend on anything you want from the Merly Impressions online store. Wow!

We do hope that you have fun with our challenge and that we bring some inspiration your way. Every month I love to look through all your gorgeous entries but please make sure you follow the challenge rules as we are sad to have on occasion to remove some entries as they didn’t follow those rules. You can find a full list of the Challenge rules on the Monthly Challenge page but we would like to politely remind readers that:

  1. anyone who puts their entry on their own blog must link back to this post ( so that all your visitors can find the gallery below and enjoy all the fabulous layouts being created
  2. each creation entered must be “new” (not previously entered into a Merly Impressions or any other challenge)

It can be difficult for us to view any of your entries linked through Facebook therefore we are kindly asking you if you could please post your photos on the Merly Impressions page as this should make it easier for us all to admire your work. You can also email your entries directly to us at and we will add them and link them through our Photobucket gallery.

Have fun!
