I do love texture and grunge, but as I don’t have a scrap room of my own, I do worry about ink and paint in the dining room! Still, sometimes the urge becomes too much and I bite the bullet!
This layout is all about texture and paint. I wanted to experiment with different things too whilst I was playing. I started off with Attitude! – Rebel paper (just love the worn wood look). I spread paint and gesso through various stencils to add some grunge.
I picked out some random bits of chipboard and metal embellishments and painted with gesso. As I only have cheap gesso from The Works, I needed several coats to get a good chalky finish.
Next I sprayed different inks – some I let run and other I kept static. If it goes a bit too much, just add more gesso over the top. I also added some rub-ons bits here and there – a look I really love. If you don’t have rub-ons, try stamps for a similar effect.
Add more ink layers and gesso as needed. I also arranged some bandage and some tape I found at the DIY for more texture. A gel medium is a great way to get things to stick down. Add more gesso over the top to get everything to blend.
I added some hessian fabric under layers of scrunched papers which have altered with more gesso and inks (I used several sheets from the 6.5″ Paper Pad). I layered up more collectable die-cuts which have been sanded.
I added some brads to the numbers which have been distressed with paint and ink. It’s a good idea to collect found objects such as washers, beaded chain (from a clothing tag), old coins, buttons, etc. They will all add great texture to your page.
I think this is one of my favourite layouts and certainly worth the mess!
Thanks for popping in.

I am loving the grungy look. And another idea to use my much loved Tim Holtz clock die. Brilliant! Adore the new papers by Kaiser…yum yum!
I agree, well worth getting messy when the result is so stunning
