September 2015 Crop – Layout Preview

Hi everyone,

Here are the sneak peeks and details of the layouts for the Merly Impressions Crop on Saturday 19th September 2015 – 10am to 5pm

The kit uses the lovely Kaisercraft collection Botanica which features sketched florals and pretty patterns reminiscent of an English country garden.

The first layout, which I’ve called “Moments Together” uses one coloured photo measuring 12cm high x 13cm wide. A black & white photo would also work.

The second layout which I’ve called “Things grow better with love” uses one coloured photo measuring 9cm wide x 13cm high . A black & white photo would also work.

Other items used on the layouts which you will need to bring are a Paper Distresser, Lilac ink pad for inking round the edges and foam pads. You will also need a needle for sewing (if you want to do it) and a small pair of scissors because there is a lot of fussy cutting on both of the layouts. I have also used some Crystal Lacquer & Clear Glitter Glue on some of the embellishments. A similar product will also work although this is entirely optional. We will however have Crystal Lacquer, Clear Glitter Glue, ink pads & Foam dots/roll available to purchase in the Merly shop.

We will bring our usual supply of tools, including the Sew Easy Tools (which are used on the layouts), Big Shot, Dies, punches, etc, to the crop if people would like to use them to create their own title or cut out other embellishments. The Martha Stewart Punch Around the Page set used on one of the layouts is called “Wild Flowers, large combo”, we will bring ours for people to use.

For anyone who cannot join us on the day, the kit will be available to purchase online after the crop. It will contain detailed instructions for you to complete the two layouts.

The location of the crop, together with other details and future dates can be found on our Crop Dates page.

There will also be the usual FABULOUS Merly Impressions Shop where you can purchase all the latest Kaisercraft goodies.  Paul will be making a selection of yummy cakes, We will also bring biscuits, chocolates, tea and coffee. Please bring your own lunch.

See you all on 19th September at 10am until 5pm. The cost of your seat is £7.50 and the kit is £12.50.

Framed

Hello Everyone, Hope you are all well.

Linda here with another layout using the beautiful Botanica collection.
IMG_8731 smallI loved the Woodgrain of the Leaf paper and decided to create a frame with it so I cut 4 x 2″ strips and mitered the corners. I then gutted the centre of a piece of Vanilla Kaisercard 2 1/2″ from the edge to look like a mount board frame within. I have to admit that this is version two as once made it all just looked too flat. I had run out of foam tape so the depth didn’t work.

Then – Top tip came from the lovely Pam – use the pizza box the goodies are delivered in!

I took it apart and added a frame of cardboard either side of the Vanilla Kaisercard – what a fantastic idea and perfect recycling!

IMG_8719 smallYou can see below the layers it created!

IMG_8735 smallOk, so to back track – next I cut a piece of Seed 10″ square and added behind the Vanilla cardstock. My photo was printed twice and cut to 4 1/2 x 3 1/2″ and 2 1/4 x 3 1/4″ then mounted on the remaining pieces of Leaf, the reverse side.

IMG_8720 smallTo decorate, I fussy cut some stems from Habitat paper and also Pollen and layered them up on the left hand side.

IMG_8734 smallFollowed by some leaves from the Collectables top and bottom of my smaller photograph – which is on foam tape – the last I had!

IMG_8732 smallI then punched some small flowers using Roots inked with Orchid mini ink pad and an EK Sucess punch and filled the centres with Mlled Lavender Distress Stickles – I really like the effect this gives, very different!

IMG_8733 smallFinally, I added a strip cut from Botany mounted onto a little leftover Stem from the paper pad and some pearls.

Have you used an unusual element in your layouts? Let us know!

Thanks for joining me for this months creations, check back later in the week for more delightful projects from the Design Team.

Take care

Botanica(l) cards

Hi All,

Linda here with a couple of cards made with the eye catching Botanica range.

small 3

They both use papers from the paper pad which is absolutely perfect for card making as it is all scaled down versions of the 12×12.

small 2

The first one is a 6×6 card blank which I have covered with Stem – the dots are glossed, I love this effect. Next I cut a piece of  Leaf   3 1/2 x 4 1/4″  and stamped with black ink using the clear stamps. It was then mounted onto the brown side of Leaf. This was placed at a “jaunty” angle. Several images were cut from the Habitat paper and these were layered with foam tape along the right hand side. All edges were inked with an Orchid Kaiser ink pad – this colour works perfectly with the Botanica collection. In the back of the paper pad there is always a selection of very useful tags, borders and sentiments so I used the above tag then created a copy using Roots. These were tied together with a little piece of ribbon from my collection, then added with foam tape to raise it. Finally I stamped some leaves in black ink, cut them out and added around the tags. A little Milled Lavender Distress stickles & a few pearls completed the card.

The second followed a similar vein, the 6×6″ card blank was covered with Botany with a mat of Plant cut to 5″ square. This was stamped with different leaves with a border torn from Leaf and a little lace. Another 3 images from Habitat were added towards the right with foam tape. The tags I cut by hand using offcuts, the message is from my collection, stamped in black over one of the leaf stamps inked with Orchid. These were tied with another piece from the lace collection. More leaves were stamped, cut out & placed onto the card. Finally some more Milled Lavender Distress stickles & a few pearls were added to finish.

Take care & enjoy your week – more inspiration to follow from the Design Team later.

You make my Heart happy

Hi Everyone, hope you are all having a lovely summer.

Linda here with a floral layout created with the beautiful Botanica collection inspired by a recent day out.

IMG_8645 small

I began with Plant and cut it vertically 7″ from the left hand side, punching along the right edge with a Martha Stewart deep edge punch. The length was also trimmed to 11 1/2″. This was then mounted onto some Coffee Bean Kaisercard 7 1/4 x 11 3/4″ – gutted to 2″. All edges were inked with Orchid Kaisercraft mini ink pad.

I then took Roots and gutted the centre panel 3 1/2″ from each side, 1″ from top and bottom (see below) and placed the first panel over the top.

IMG_8629 small 2

My photo was trimmed to 4×4″ (Hello Dad!) and mounted onto more Coffee Bean Kaisercard.

Having decided where I wanted this placed, I drew along the edges lightly with a pencil, then trimmed around the leaves with a craft knife so I could insert it underneath.

IMG_8640 small

Now, the fussy cutting – not something I am over fond of but necessary for the effect I wanted!

I trimmed around Air to get the bits I wanted the cut it out using these mega sharp scissors and a craft knife.

IMG_8641 smallIMG_8642 small

These were then layered over the left hand side of the page using foam tape

IMG_8647 small

I found a lovely stems and bloom in The Collectables along with the sentiment which I mounted onto Coffee Bean Kaisercard. Raised on foam tape and placed on the page I then cut the stem to extend it and layered it on. The remaining piece of Plant had a floral corner so I trimmed that and added over this.

IMG_8648.small

Punched butterflies (Martha Stewart) were doubled and added around this too, coated with Milled Lavender Distress Stickles. And, finally, some Champagne pearls.

This collection is perfect for creating memories of lovely summer days out.

That’s all from me for now, check back later for some awesome designs from the DT.

Take care
