Merly Impressions August 2014 Challenge

Hi everybody! After a short holiday break we are here to challenge you once more!

This month we don’t just want you to create a scrapbook page – we want you to tell us the story about what is included in it. This month the theme of the challenge is:

Journalling

Your layout should include journalling to tell the story behind the layout. The journalling can be in any form (e.g. typed, hand-written, stamped) but it should form a predominant part of the design of the page. It should not be hidden (for example in an envelope or behind a photo).

The final date for entries is the 2nd of September 2014.

One of our design team has created a layout to provide a little inspiration:

Hi everyone, it’s Pam again.

I hope you are all enjoying a fabulous summer, taking lots of photo and making lots of memories to scrap about. it’s those memories that become stories that need to be recorded on your layouts. And that is what the August challenge is: a journalling challenging. I know for a lot of us the fun part of scrapping is the cutting and pasting, and the journalling often gets forgotten. However, the stories are important, and we really should make an effort to record them on our pages. When I first started scrapping back in 2005, my daughter also joined in. She was about 10 at the time. The other day, I was looking at her old scrapbooks and they were so much more interesting than mine because she always wrote stories on her pages. When I look at her scrapbooks I get such a sense of the person she was when she made the scrapbook pages.

Journalling can be added in may ways: handwritten, typed or stamped. The journalling may be visible or hidden, for example on a tag tucked behind the photo. For my layout, I have chosen to do a block of handwritten journalling. Although I wish I had neat, regular handwriting, or arty scribbly handwriting, I’m afraid I have neither, but for me handwriting is both quick and personal, so that’s what I’ve chosen for this layout.

P1160657-1

For this layout I have used the Be-you-tiful collection by Kaisercraft. The background paper is the rear side of the ‘Delightful’ paper. This paper is speckled, so I used a plastic card to scrape some gesso over the space where my journalling would go. By knocking back the speckles, it makes the journalling easier to read. I started this layout by gessoing the journalling space, then applying some random stamping under where I would place my photo. I also added a couple of squirts of red Dylusions spray. Then I layered up some papers, and die cut Collectables.

Here’s some closeups of the layout:

P1160660-4 P1160659-3 P1160658-2So, we’re really excited to see all your layout with a focus on journalling.

Pam

Challenge Inspiration with Storyteller

Hello Kaisercraft fans!

Emmy here with a brand new layout created for Merly Impressions’ June “Scrap Your Crafting Space” Challenge.

As you can see from my pictures – I don’t really have a scrap space… I’ve always wanted my own crafty studio, but somehow sitting alone on the third floor, when everybody else is downstairs, never seemed quite right to me. So, I decided to move to our dining table and claim some space in the book case. It is always a mess and if we have visitors I have to act really quick in order to have some free space to drink coffee on the table, but I wouldn’t change it for anything else! Like this I can to do the things I love and still be with my family every single day 🙂

This month I had the pleasure to work with the wonderful Kaisercraft collection “Storyteller”:

MI-June-Challenge

For my background I used the Feature pattern paper and a matching paper from the 6.5″ Paper Pad from the same  collection.

MI-June-Challenge-det-d

I embellished my layout with die cuts from the Collectables pack and the 6.5″ Paper Pad, which I arranged under and around my pictures.

MI-June-Challenge-det-c

To finish off my design I added some resin flowers using Kaisercraft Blossoms Resin Flowers Dahlia.

I hope I managed to inspire you today!

And don’t forget you’ve got until 2nd of August, 2014 to add your creation to the gallery under the  June Challenge post. We will then choose our favourite layout to win a fantastic prize – a £25.00 voucher to spend on anything you want from the Merly Impressions online store.

Have a great day!

Merly Impressions June 2014 Challenge

Hi everybody! It is that time of the month again and we are here to challenge you once more!

This month we are keen to learn a little more about you – we want to learn about where you scrap. So this month the theme of the challenge is:

Scrap your Crafting Space

Your layout should describe and/or show the space in which you craft. Your space can be quirky, colourful, untidy, organised or compact – we really don’t mind – as long as it features prominently in your layout.

We’ve decided to keep this challenge open a little longer than usual – the final date for entries is the 2nd of August 2014.

One of our design team has created a layout to provide a little inspiration:

Hi there,

It’s Pam here kicking off the Merly June Challenge. This month we’re asking you to scrap your scrap space. No matter how big or how small, how modest or how sophisticated your scrap space is, we want to see it!

My scrap space is in my open plan kitchen/dining/family room. I have my scrappy stash stored along one wall of the family room end, and I actually scrap on the dining table in the middle of the room….and on the island in the middle of the kitchen end! I am a very messy scrapper, and end up with stuff all over the room when I’m working on a layout.

And that’s what this layout is all about!

P1160450-2-4

As you can see, chaos reigns when I scrap – it’s one of the reasons I don’t go to crops – I don’t think other scrappers should have to put up with my mess!

P1160449-2-3

Although I’m lucky to have this space, the downside is that I have to clear everything way in order to cook, or eat meals! Or maybe that’s a good thing!

P1160448-2-2

This is a really simple layout using the Kaleidescope range from Kaisercrafts.

This mixed media effect paper was used for the the background, and only required the addition of some corrugated card, some stamped arrows, and some paper and journalling strips. Simple!

Decoupage - Kaleidoscope Collection

We can’t wait to see your scrappy space-and you could win a voucher to spend at the fabulous Merly shop!

Challenge Inspiration from Emmy

Hello Kaisercraft fans!

Emmy here with a brand new layout created for Merly Impressions’ May “Spring is in the Air” Challenge.

This month I have the pleasure to create with the amazing Honey Chai Collection from Kaisercraft:

MI-May-Challenge-web

Creating a Spring themed layout was very easy with this paper line – just look at the soft green colours and all the flourishes. I used one of Elise’s most recent pictures, taken this spring in Wrest park.

I used Kaisercard Coconut Weave Cardstock as a base for my layout. I fussy cut the swirly frame from the Clove Gloss Paper and adhered it with mounting foam tape to the cardstock. MI-may-challenge-det-a (3)I added Kaisercraft Rhinestones Lilac to decorate the edges. I used masking template and different stamps {Film Edges Clear Stamps and Hummingbird stamp set} to create the pattern on the cardstock.

MI-may-challenge-det-a (4)

To decorate my page I used two different types of Kaisercraft flowers – Mini Paper Blooms “Amethyst” and Paper Blooms “Sage”.

MI-may-challenge-det-a (1)

I used also the die cuts and papers form the matching Paper Pad

MI-may-challenge-det-a (5)

… and the Collectables pack.

MI-may-challenge-det-a (2)

I hope I managed to inspire you today!

And don’t forget you’ve got until June 2nd, 2014 to add your creation to the gallery under the May Challenge post. We will then choose our favourite layout to win a fantastic prize – a £25.00 voucher to spend on anything you want from the Merly Impressions online store.

Have a great day!

Challenge Inspiration with Blubelle

Hello Kaisercraft fans!

Emmy here with a brand new layout created for Merly Impressions’ April “Punches, Dies or Die-Cuts” challenge.

This month I have the pleasure to create with the wonderful “Blubelle” collection from Kaisercraft:

MI-Enjoy-Life-web

For my background I used the Kaisercard Navy Wave Cardstock and the Azure pattern paper from the Kaisercraft “Blubelle” collection. I cut and distressed the edges of the pattern paper and drew a tiny border to give more dimension to my background.

And since the challenge this month is “Punches, Dies or Die-Cuts”, I used a lot of all three of them on my page.

For the flower clusters I used Kaisercraft Paper Blooms Coral and  printed flowers from the Collectables pack. I added die cut flourishes and leaves  – I used Marianne Design dies, Kaisercard Navy Wave Cardstock and Oxford pattern paper.

MI-Enjoy-Life-det-a

I decorated some of my die cuts with Kaisercraft Self Adhesive Rhinestones Dark Blue.

MI-Enjoy-Life-det-b

To embellish my layout I used various Spellbinders dies, sentiments from the Collectables pack and large banner stickers from the Blubelle Collection Sticker Sheet 12″.

MI-Enjoy-Life-det-c

To create the colourful borders I used Martha Stewart border punch with cardstock and pattern paper, die cuts from the 6″ Paper Pad and Kaisercraft Lace Pack White.

MI-Enjoy-Life-det-d

The 12″ Sticker Sheet and the 6″ Paper Pad matching this collection, are perfect to create tailor made embellishments. I fussy cut and layered a lot of different elements from these products.

MI-Enjoy-Life-det-e

The banner and the lovely doily are from  the Collectables pack.

MI-Enjoy-Life-det-f

I hope I managed to inspire you today!

And don’t forget you’ve got until 1pm on May 2nd, 2014 to add your creation to the gallery under the April Challenge post. We will then choose our favourite layout to win a fantastic prize – a £25.00 voucher to spend on anything you want from the Merly Impressions online store.

Have a great day!

Emmy

Challenge Inspiration from Pam

April’s challenge is to use diecuts, or punches on your layouts.

Here’s my layout:

P1160403-1

Well to be honest, this is hardly a challenge at all if you get yourself a pack of Kaisercraft Collectables. These wonderful bags of diecuts elements really do make scrapping a breeze!!

My tip for using these lovelies is to put your adhesive in the centre of your photo and background papers and not along the sides. That way you can slip the diecuts under the various layers until you are happy with their placement.

For my layout I used the fabulous Limelight Collection by Kaisercraft. I think this collection might just be my all time favourite!!

PK467

So really, take my advice, put your diecut collectables to work, or dust off your punches, and join in with the Merly Impressions April challenge for your chance to win a £25 voucher to spend at the Merly Impressions shop!
