Layouts & Photos from September Crop

Many thanks to the scrappers who made our September crop so much fun. We hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as we did.

The kit for September was based on the Miss Match collection from Kaisercraft and included instructions and stash to make two layouts that we called “Memory” and “Picture Perfect” although some scrappers came up with their own interpretations of the layouts.

We hope to see you all again for our next crop on the 17th of November 2012.

September Crop – Layout Preview

The Merly Impressions September Crop is nearly upon us so we thought we would let everyone know about the kit our croppers will be using on Saturday 15th September.

The kit uses Kaisercraft’s collection called Miss Match which features flowers, polaroid pictures and even crossword puzzles in very versatile colours including coral, green and marine blue. The kit includes a total of eight sheets of printed paper, two sheets of cardstock, Lemon Pearls, Miss Match Polaroids & some cotton and twine.

The theme for the two layouts is ‘Picture Perfect’ & ‘Memory’ but you can adapt your layouts to suit your photo’s.

The first layout which we have called ‘Picture Perfect’ uses one photo measuring 9cm wide by 9cm high. I have used a sepia photo but you could use a black & white photo or coloured photo. The colours in this layout are mainly green, blue, black & cream.

The second layout which we have called ‘Memory’ uses one photo measuring 9cm wide by 9cm high. I have used a coloured photo, the colours in this layout are mainly green, cream, red & orange.

You are obviously free to alter the title (and therefore the theme) of the layouts and you can also add journalling.  I have also used a punch and the Sew Easy tool which will be available to use on the day. We will also bring our usual supply of tools, the Cricut Expression machine, Grand Calibur and Big Shot to the crop if people would like to use it to create their own title or cut out other embellishments. Other items used on the layouts which you may need to bring are Crystal Lacquer, a journal pen and an Edge Scraper Tool and a Brown ink pad. We will also have ink pads and Crystal Lacquer available to purchase on the day if you don’t have them. You will also need to bring a small pair of scissors because there is a little delicate cutting out on one of the layouts.

We will post full images and close-ups of the layouts after the September crop.

The kit will cost £10 on the day but is entirely optional and your seat is £5.00. The location of the crop, together with other details, can be found on our Crop Dates page.

There will also be the usual FABULOUS Merly Shop and we will supply gorgeous cakes, muffins, choccies and biscuits, tea & coffee. Please bring your own lunch.

See you all next week,
Chrissy & Paul. xXx

A Stamp Only Layout for Summer

Are you the kind of crafter who uses background stamps only for backgrounds, alphabet stamps only to write words, image stamps only as an embellishment? Do you believe that you can only use a stamp for what it was designed to do? Well I am here to help you look at your stamps in a new light and to help you make the most of them!

The idea is turn your stamps use around. Here is how I used some of my Kaisercraft stamps for this layout:

August 2012 Stamps Only Layout

I used the Miss Match Bingo stamps, the Check-in stamps and the Grungy Alphas stamps to create my backgrounds. I showed you previously how to create the colour background I used once more here, but the idea is to either repeat an image to cover your paper (as done with the Check-in stamp) or to stamp the whole sheet of stamps to create a background image (as I did for with the Bingo cards stamps and the alphas). It is a fantastic way to give a new lease of life to your well used, well loved stamps. To make it quicker to stamp the whole sheet of stamps (especially the alphas), leave all the stamps on the backing sheet, ink them but then put the paper on the stamps, place your acrylic block on top of the paper and press down. It’s to create a patterned paper that will sit in the back of the layout so the image doesn’t need to be perfect and I think that the imperfection actually add some personality and edginess!

Here is how I used my papers:

August 2012 Stamps Only Layout - finished

I created a fourth paper with the Grid Background stamp simply because I wanted something lighter in colour to break between the background and the photograph. Still with the idea of changing the use of my stamps I added lonely spots of stamping behind my photograph with the Bubble wrap stamp and the Graffiti stamp. These are designed to be used repeatedly in order to cover wide surfaces but I wanted to show you that you can use it too by just stamping them once! I finished off my page with some Miss Match gorgeousness by adding some of the Collectables and some of the pieces that come with the Paper Pad. Some gorgeous Paper Blooms and Resin Flowers and I was happy with the finished result!

I hope I inspired you to look at your stamps in a new light!

July 2012 Card Challenge

We have been getting a few requests for a card challenge and as we love challenges here it is – our first ever Card Challenge!

As you know the summer is usually a time of national celebrations around the world with the likes of Independence Day in America and Bastille Day in France but the summer of 2012 is a huge celebration of Britain with the Jubilee and the London Olympics taking place. So for this challenge we decided to go all “Pride of Britain” with a colour combination challenge:

So we are asking you to create a card (any size, shape or style) following this combination of red, white and blue and as I am not one to leave you without an example here is my card:

July Card Challenge example

I used some gorgeous bits from the Miss Match paper pad as well as the “Cherish” and the “Number background” stamps.

The prize is a gorgeous Vintage Timeless paper pad! I really can’t wait to see your entries!

We do hope that you have fun with our challenge and that we bring some inspiration your way. Every month I love to look through all your gorgeous entries but please make sure you follow the challenge rules as we are sad to have on occasion to remove some entries as they didn’t follow those rules. You can find a full list of the Challenge rules on the Monthly Challenge page but we would like to politely remind readers that:

  1. anyone who puts their entry on their own blog must link back to this post (http://www.merlyimpressions.co.uk/blog/cardmaking/july-2012-card-challenge/) so that all your visitors can find the gallery below and enjoy all the fabulous cards being created
  2. each creation entered must be “new” (not previously entered into a Merly Impressions or any other challenge)

It can be difficult for us to view any of your entries linked through Facebook therefore we are kindly asking you if you could please post your photos on the Merly Impressions page as this should make it easier for us all to admire your work. You can also email your entries directly to us at info@merlyimpressions.co.uk and we will add them and link them through our Photobucket gallery.

Have fun !

July 2012 Layout Challenge

It is the 15th of the month and I am sure that you do know now that this is the day we begin our monthly Merly Impression Challenge and this month we have a very special prize for you!

What about becoming part of our Design Team for a month? Yes! The prize for the winner is to become a DT guest member with a Design Team goodie box with an approximate value of £30.00 with which you will get to create two layouts and a card for the Merly Impressions Blog. If you prefer not to be a guest DT member then you will still receive a £20.00 goodie box of Kaisercraft products!

The prize kind of determined the theme of this month challenge as we are asking to create a layout telling us why you scrapbook. Your layout can be any size and can be with or without a photograph but must include the words “Why I Scrapbook” somewhere on it. And here is my take on this theme:

Emilie - Why I Scrapbook

I love to mix the Kaisercraft collections and did this here by using the papers “Odds” and “Bric a Brac” from the Miss Match collection with the papers “Delayed” and “Roam” from the Check-In collection. I love how easily it comes together! A few more bits and pieces such as cards from the Perforated sheetBingo cards and Polaroid frame to finish it all off and there you go.
