Layouts & Photos from April 2015 Crop

Many thanks to the scrappers who attended our April 2015 crop. We hope everyone enjoyed the day and the kit.

The kit for April was based on the Shine Bright collection from Kaisercraft and included instructions and stash to make two layouts (actually a double page layout) that we called “Shine On” and “Beautiful”.

The kit is available on the Merly Impressions shop – it can be found in the Layout Kits section of the website.

It was a very well attended crop and it was good to see so many familiar faces. We hope everyone enjoyed the Merly Impressions shop as well.

Many thanks to Paul for making the fabulous cakes and cookies !

April 2015 Crop – Layout Preview

Hi everyone,

Here are the sneak peeks and details of the layouts for the Merly Impressions Crop on Saturday 18th April 2015 – 10am to 5pm.

The kit uses the lovely Kaisercraft collection Shine Bright which features geometric patterns, clean and simple colours and a splash of sunshine. The first layout, which I’ve called “Shine On” uses two black & white photo’s measuring 9.5cm wide x 12 high. Coloured photo’s would also work.

The second layout which I’ve called “Beautiful” uses one black & white photo measuring 8cm wide x 12cm high.  A coloured photo would also work.

Other items used on the layouts which you will need to bring are a journal pen, black ink pad for inking round the edges & foam pads. You will also need a needle for sewing (if you want to do it) and a small pair of scissors because there is a little fussy cutting on both of the layouts.  I have also used some Crystal Lacquer on some of the embellishments. A similar product will also work and this is optional. We will however have Crystal Lacquer, ink pads & Foam dots/roll available to purchase in the Merly shop.

We will bring our usual supply of tools, including the Sew Easy Tools (which are used on the layouts), Big Shot, Dies, punches, etc, to the crop if people would like to use them to create their own title or cut out other embellishments.

For anyone who cannot join us on the day, the kit will be available to purchase online after the crop. It will contain detailed instructions for you to complete the two layouts.

The location of the crop, together with other details and future dates can be found on our Crop Dates page.

There will also be the usual FABULOUS Merly Impressions Shop where you can purchase all the latest Kaisercraft goodies.  Paul will be making a selection of yummy cakes & Sausage rolls. We will also bring biscuits, chocolates, tea and coffee. Please bring your own lunch.

See you all on 18th April at 10am, we are finishing at 5pm. The cost of the kit is £12.00 and your seat is £5.00 payable on the day.

Shine Bright with extra dimension

Hi everyone, it’s Pam here with a layout featuring the fabulous ‘Shine Bright’ collection from Kaisercraft. This is a modern collection with a grey, yellow, black and white colour palette and that colour combination is a winner with me! It has a graphic, slightly retro feel to it I think.

So I used it to scrap this photo of my son in the bath in front of the fire. Look at those little red chubby cheeks!
2015-03-01 15.51.53I started this layout by using Bumble Bee  paper as the base. I cut some strips of patterned paper and machine stitched them to the base.

2015-03-01 15.03.47

I used quite a few of the stickers from the sticker sheet, and some of the Collectables die cuts to embellish the layout. Now I want to give you a tip on how to do add faux dimension to layers.

2015-03-01 15.52.14

I  adhered the stickers and the diecuts direct to the layout, but gave them a 3D look by painting a shadow around the elements. To do this I scribbled with a black water colour pencil onto some scrap paper, then wet the scribble to activate the pigment. Then I just painted with the watered down paint around each of the elements I wanted to give a 3D look to.

2015-03-01 15.52.04

That’s it-a really simple way of giving the appearance of dimension, without the bulk, and without the need for dimensional tape or pop dots!

I hope you love this collection as much as I do!

Bye for now,

A Summertime Shine Bright layout

Hi there, it’s Pam again with another layout using the fabulous ‘Shine Bright’ collection from Kaisercraft. As soon as I saw this collection I knew I had a perfect photo to go with it. This photo of my two was taken way back in 1994 when we were in Australia for Christmas, hence the tanned legs in December!
2015-02-28 15.39.10

Kaisercraft makes it so easy to do quick scrapbook pages. All I did here was to cut across the diagonal of the Canary paper, and machine stitch it to the Golden paper to make my base layer. Then I just layered up some of the Collectable Diecuts and randomly adhered some  black rhinestones. How easy is that?

2015-02-28 15.39.14

One thing I like to do is to add some black pen work. Here I traced around some of the die cuts, and also ruled some pen lines to frame my photo.2015-02-28 15.39.19 2015-02-28 15.39.27Sometimes it’s the little added details that can make a big difference to a layout, don’t you think?

A Springtime Shine Bright layout

Hi everyone, it’s Pam here with a layout to show how you can move away from the dominant colours of a paper collection.

As much as I love the grey, yellow black and white palette of the Shine Bright collection, I wanted to demonstrate that it is possible to mix it up with other colours. I can see this collection working really well with primary blue and red or hot pink. Or, as in my layout, a splash of green for a fresh Spring look suitable for this time of the year, !
2015-02-18 09.14.51

To get started on this layout I started with two stencils, one on top of the other. I wanted to add some texture, and the feeling of the sun starting to merge after a long dark winter. I adhered the big stencil using some wash tape as this stencil needed to stay put. The smaller stencil was moved around as I used a spatula to apply gesso through both stencils.   2015-02-17 14.55.55When the gesso was dry I applied a wash of watered down acrylic paint, and used a paper towel to wipe over the spots to reveal the white gesso. I added some splatters os the yellow too. I then used green acrylic paint through a leaf stencil.

2015-02-17 16.10.14 When the yellow paint was dry I realised it was a bit too lemony, so I mixed up a more orangey yellow and went over the lemon colour.
2015-02-18 09.15.27Then I added my layers of patterned papers and my photos. I made some DIY washi tape to match the layout. I did this by placing strips of light coloured wash tape onto a non stick craft sheet then stamping onto the wash tape using acrylic paint and Decorative Tape stamps.2015-02-18 09.17.082015-02-18 09.16.42

2015-02-18 09.16.12

The layout was embellished with some die cuts and a row of lemon ribbon roses.

2015-02-18 09.15.40So there it is, a lovely fresh spring layout to show you don’t need to stick with the yellow and black which is dominant in the Shine Bright collection.
2015-02-18 09.14.51I hope you enjoyed my post.
