Christmas Mini Album

Do you have guests over for Christmas dinner? If so, how about giving them a little memento of the day by making a mini album? I have made a mini album for my mother-in law, all ready to be filled with photos of the day, which she can take away with her to show her friends how she spent Christmas. On Christmas day, during the after dinner slump, while she is watching TV (or snoozing on the sofa), I will print off some of the photos taken earlier, stick them in and voila- the album will be ready to give.

I used the Kaisercraft St Nicholas collection for the album.

The album is a little like those folded postcard albums you can buy in tourist shops. So here’s what the album looks like all folded up:

You will notice the closure belt is quite roomy-that is to ensure that it will accommodate the extra bulk when the photos are added.

Here’s how the album opens:

MI Nov-1160041

MI Nov-1160042

And finally, the side flaps:

This is a really simple and quick album to make-which is perfect for this busy time of the year!

Take a piece of cardstock.

MI Nov-1160022

Cut the cardstock as shown:

Cut one 6″x12″ long piece. Mark at 4″ and 8″, then make two score lines just slightly to each side of the mark. This will make a very small ‘gusset’ to allow for bulk when folded.

Cut three 5.75″ x 6″ pieces. Score 1″ across the short end.

If desired, round the corners as shown in the photo. Adhere the three side flaps. Place adhesive onto the 1″ fold and adhere just inside the edges of the long strip.

Then cover the album, outside and inside with your choice of patterned paper. Don’t forget to round the corners before adhering!

To make the belt closure, cut a strip of cardstock 1.5″ wide to fit around the album-you will need to join an extra small piece so the strip is around 14″ by 1.5″. Form the belt into a circle that slips easily onto the album, allowing some extra space for the bulk the photos will add to the finished album. Decorate the closure with patterned paper, ribbon and a diecut.

A Christmas Canvas

When I saw the ‘St Nicholas’ collection by Kaisercraft I decided to have a go at making a little seasonal canvas art piece for displaying at Christmas time. I had a small canvas covered board on an easel in my stash, but a piece  of sturdy chipboard, such as the back of a paper pad would work as well. I covered the canvas with PVA, then adhered patterned paper.  I painted the edges with a thick layer of gold acrylic paint which I dried with a heat gun, causing the paint to blister and bubble. Then I randomly stamped the seasonal clear stamps, with embossing ink, and gold embossing powder over the background. Then it was a matter of cutting out some of the images from the patterned paper, as well as selecting some of the Collectables for layering. Once I had decided where I was going to place the St Nicholas figure and the wee child figure, I dry brushed some gold paint onto the background to give the figures a kind of glow. I layered up all the different elements, and added some sparkle with glitter glue.

Finally I added some adhesive pearl holly berries.

While I had all the Christmas papers out I thought it would be a good idea to whip up some Christmas cards. I’m a great believer in simple Christmas cards as it’s such a busy time of year.

So these cards are just that. I adhered my scraps of Christmas paper to card blanks, then pretty much just chose some of the diecut Collectables to use as card toppers:

Card making doesn’t get much easier than that!

Layouts & Photos from November Crop

Many thanks to the scrappers who attended our Christmas themed November crop. We hope everyone enjoyed the day and the kit.

The kit for November was based on the festive St. Nicholas collection from Kaisercraft and included instructions and stash to make one layout (called “Christmas Magic”) and, in a break from tradition, a beyond-the-page Days ‘Til Christmas.

We had a few requests about what products were used on the Days ‘Til Christmas project. We used:

We also used:

It was a very well attended crop with a good mix of familiar faces together with some new scrappers as well. We hope everyone enjoyed the Merly Impressions shop as well – the new Petaloo Botanical Blooms and the ScrapFX chipboard shapes and wordlets seemed especially popular.

We hope to see you again for our next crop in January.

Many thanks thanks to Paul for making the Christmassy Chocolate cake and the sausage rolls – along with the biscuits and sweeties, they went down very well.
