January 13th 2018 – Merly Crop Kit layout preview

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year to you all.

The January 2018 Merly Crop will soon be upon us so here are the details and sneak peeks of the layouts that you will be able to create using the kit. For this kit I have used papers from the beautiful “Wandering Ivy” Kaisercraft collection.

23915823_10154817758675356_1000910507636200995_nAlso supplied in the kit are DMC white cotton, white Kaisercard, rhinestones, paper templates and detailed instructions with coloured photo’s for you to follow, so you can then create the two layouts that I have designed at your own pace.

Below are some sneak peeks of the first layout which I’ve called “Reasons To Be Happy” I have used a black & white photo measuring 13cm wide x 9cm high. The layout features beautiful fussy cut flowers, leaves and some stitched swirls. (a template will be supplied in the kit for the stitched swirls and a template for the paper flourishes).

This layout also features beautiful fussy cut flowers & flourishes in all sorts of sizes & a little stitching. I have used some crystal lacquer on some of the fussy cut elements and blue & white mists from my own stash. There is also a little punching, this punch will be supplied at the crop.

We will however have a selection of ink pads & Foam dots/roll & the crystal lacquer available to purchase in the on site Merly shop. A swirl pricking paper template is provided in the kit, but you will need to bring a pricking tool and a mat.

I have also used the WRMK Sew Easy Tool – and a Martha Stewart Vintage Doily edge punch, these will be available to use at the crop along with our usual supply of tools including the Big Shot machine & other punches.

The location of the crop, together with other details and future dates can be found on our Crop Dates page. We also have a crop/retreat facebook page, where you can see more sneak peeks and details of up and coming events and where you can also post your finished layouts.

Mist and stencil tutorial layout

Hi everyone, It’s Pam here.

I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed working with Kaisercraft’s ‘Oh So Lovely’ collection this month. Oh so lovely just doesn’t do justice to this collection which provides just the right balance between pretty and rustic. It’s feminine with it’s colour palette and flowers, but also has a masculine distressed and country look.

So here’s a layout I made to showcase these old photos of my daughter when she was just a chubby baby.

2015-04-07 17.28.57copyThis month I also got to play with a new stencil and the new Kaisercrafts mists in pink.2015-04-07 13.44.46 I wanted to ensure no stray ink escaped onto my clean white card stock, so I ran a row of repositionable adhesive around the stencil, and adhered some copy paper to protect my card stock.

Make sure you give the mist bottle a good mix to ensure even distribution of glimmer. I find the best way is to hold the bottle at the top and keeping it upright, swirl the bottle round and round. Resist the temptation to shake it up and down, as you will get lots of air bubbles and possibly the spray will be uneven and result in blots. Hold the spray about 20 cms from the page and move the bottle over the stencil while spraying. Take care not to add too much spray at once as you don’t want the ink to puddle and seep under the stencil. Either allow the ink to dry between applications, or use paper towel to mop up any excess before adding another layer of spray.2015-04-07 13.45.32 It’s a real shame that you can’t see how glimmery these mists are. They have a real metallic lustre along with gorgeous colours.2015-04-07 13.47.55 Having allowed the mist to dry I began to add some different elements: Some fussy cutting of the ‘Woman’ paper, and some rectangles of map paper from the ‘Lass’ paper.2015-04-07 14.26.25 I then began to embellish the layout using some of the die cut collectables.2015-04-07 14.45.31

A little bit of black pen work helps things to ‘pop’.2015-04-07 17.29.16

Hi there!

For my second project using Chase Rainbows, I used a photo of Portmeirion in Wales.  The collection was perfect to use with the wonderful colour of the house in the village.  I once again gently sprayed bursts of Kaisermist in Charcoal on a sheet of Kaiser cardstock in Lollypop.  I also used a fabulous Doily Template.   Through this I inked using Tim Holtz mini Distress Pads in Mustard Seed, Picked Raspberry and Peacock Feathers.

I then cut a piece of Hue paper and distress around it.  I fussy cut out the doily shapes from the  Ablaze paper and placed them underneath the Hue paper.  My photo was mounted on the reverse side of a sheet of Hue, and raised on Foam Dots.  From the Sticker sheet I took the butterflies and placed them on the layout. Folding them in half and placing Rhinestones in Black down the centres.  My title was cut from a piece of Dye and outlined with black pen, also used in the title were Alpha Stickers in Black.

I hope you enjoyed my post!
