September 2012 Layout Challenge

Today is the 16th of the month – and yes, we are one day late for the new Merly Impressions layout challenge reveal. So without further delay, here it is!

I often see on your blogs that you are enjoying the variety of themes for our challenge at Merly and I am very pleased that you do so! I do my best to come-up with something different every month to keep you on your toes. I try to vary things by rotating theme challenge, technique challenge and design challenge. This month, I thought I would go for a theme a bit different from your usual Scrapbooking challenge… You see, after Scrapbooking and crafting, what I love the most is my television! I have been thinking for a while about creating a TV layout and as choosing what I will challenge you with is one of the perks of this job (hi hi hi) I decided to  challenge you too to design a Television themed layout!!!!

It can be about your favourite TV series, your guilty pleasure, the object itself, memories related to the TV,… You decide!

Here is my layout:

Emilie's take on the September 2012 challenge

I loooove Grey’s Anatomy! I only got into it last year (season 8!) but I caught up all the previous seasons and now I even Scrapbook while playing the episodes over and over on my desktop!!! I layered different collections of papers: Hummingbird (one of my favourite Kaisercraft collection ever!), Madame Boutique (for the brown), Miss Nelly ( for the pale blue) and a bit from the Twig and Berry paper pad (for the rich red straight under the photo). I have also added some acetate between the sheets of paper that I melted with my heatgun using this technique and mounted it all onto a sheet of Burgundy  Kaisercard. I finished it off with some Distress Stains splodges and the gorgeous Typewriter alphas.

Do you remember last month’s prize? The winner was to become a DT guest member! So let me introduce to Shirley!

Hello Shirley! Could you introduce yourself to all of the readers who don’t know you already?

I’m Shirley, a recently retired nurse living in the North East of England.

How and when did you discover paper crafting and Scrapbooking?

I started to scrap when I saw a friend’s scrapbooks and once my second grandchild was born in 2008 I was hooked !!

Where do you find inspiration?

Mainly my old family photos.  My gorgeous grandchildren are also a prime source but it’s all about telling the family story.

What are your favourite subjects to Scrap about?

My Grandchildren

Can you tell us a bit more about your creative process?

I think I must be a faffer!!! I shuffle paper around a lot and won’t stick anything down until I’m certain I have completed my layouts and I’m happy with them. I like to mix up stash and papers from different collections.

What does Scrapbooking bring to you?

I like to incorporate the different techniques I have learned, it’s my style of art if you like.  I know that I am able to leave the family a valuable source of information when I’m gone.

And here is Shirley’s gorgeous take on this month challenge:

As you can see she took the challenge in a completely different direction then I did!

From Shirley: “Nearly all of my layouts are of family photos as I like to tell the family story so when I realised the challenge was ‘Televison’ it did make me think a bit harder!!  I found a photo on Google images of an old television as the ‘Getaway’ patterned paper in the Lake House Collection just reminded me of  vintage wall paper. I fussy cut a sheet of ‘Villa’ and layered them on to a sheet of ‘Spa’ to represent the garden. A stamped image of a table lap completed the ‘interior’. I inked a mask for the brick wall and printed the journaling on Safmat to record my very early memories of television’”.

Thank you Shirley for this gorgeous layout!

Now let us see your take on this month Challenge!!!

Please add your creation to the gallery below before the challenge closes at 1:00pm on 12th October. We will then choose our favourite layout to win a fantastic prize – a £25.00 voucher to spend on anything you want from the Merly Impressions online store.

  3. These are brilliant. I’ve never done a LO (shock horror).
always done cards & altered art or jewelry. I think it’s a bit of a fear with them & have not had anything to ‘scrap’. Apologies as I’m sure i left comment yesterday. Can’t see it here so adding another, lol.
Good luck to all you clever people!! x

  4. Love the layout Tracy, funky colours and great journaling.

Thank you for entering the challenge.

  5. Caroline … take the plunge! If you can make cards just think of a layout as a big card. And there’s always something to scrap – even if it’s just your favourite meal, or best friend, or pet or what books you like … or even your favourite tv programme LOL. My challenge to myself was to do each Merly Impressions blog challenge; and I’ve done it every month! look forward to seeing your attempts 😉

  6. Hi Tracy, brilliant advice and ideas. I quite often look at acards and get ideas from them and you are so right you can scrapbook anything. Thank you for entering all the challenges and looking forward to seeing you next months layout.
