Christmas Home Decor with Peace and Joy

Karen here with the first of my projects for October using the beautiful Peace and Joy collection which is very traditional in its colouring with a watercolor feel to all the papers.  You can see the unboxing of my DT goodies in the YouTube here.

For this project I decided to use the collection with a Large Heart Silhouette Wall Art off the page (on special offer at the moment and only £7.97).  I think my project would have been better if I had painted the frame with Gesso first as I will explain later in this post.

The frame comes in three pieces – a square back, a square with a heart cut out and a heart.  I started by covering the square back with the spot side of Festivity.   I then drew around the heart onto a piece of Ruby Glitter Cardstock and cut the heart out.  The heart frame was then added to the square with the heart cut out.  I found that the card was reluctant to stick to the wood and this is when I thought it would have been better to have primed the wood with a little gesso.

After I had stuck the card to the cut out heart I then put double sided tape around the outside of the frame and the heart shape and added red glitter tape to this.

Finally, I covered the heart with the stripy side of Gladness. I used foam tape to stick the heart to the top right of the glitter frame.

As I wanted to be able to change the photo on this project each year I made four photo corners from the scraps of red glitter card and added a 6 x 4 in piece of white card as placement for my photograph.

Next I cut lots of flowers from Cheer and Merry papers and from the corresponding papers from the 6.5 x 6.5 pad.  I also cut the birds from one of the 6.5 x 6.5 papers.

I placed the Leafy Wreath die cut so that my heart was tucked underneath on the top left but over the top on the right.  I did have to snip it apart to make it lay flat.

The fussy cut flowers and birds were placed around the wreath with a few added to the bottom left of the frame.  I added some black rhinestones and a couple of tags from the 6.5 x 6.5 pad.

So there we have it – a lovely piece of home decor to get out every Christmas and add my favourite photograph from the year before.

I will be back soon with my next project using this lovely collection.

‘M for Merly’ Beyond the Page Initial

Good morning all,

Elaine here again bringing you an altered initial for a beyond the page project.

Firstly I took the letter (which I purchased from a well known High Street chain of craft shops) and covered it in White Gesso  (don’t worry if it bubble like mine did. It will pull back tight once it’s dry)

Next I took a sheet of Jade paper and the Echo Paper from the Lilac Whisper collection and adhered them using PVA glue to the initial.

Once dried I used a sanding block to smooth off the edges and then I used texture paste with the Damask Quarters stencil on the front side of the letter.

I then added some torn corrugated card and two stamped and fussy cut doilies from the Doily Texture stamp and some cheesecloth and sprayed it with Wisteria Kaisermist. (At this point I was a little worried it was too dark..but don’t comes good in the next stage!)

I then used fussy cut flowers from the Hydrangea sheet and layered them using Foam Mounting tape. I also added inked wooden flourishes from the Garden PackSea Breeze Sparklets, butterflies from the collectables pack, Sea Breeze Blooms and Little Birdie Water Colour flowers.

To finish I added sprinkles of watered down white acrylic paint to the whole thing..see what a difference it makes?

I am loving this pretty new collection and I hope you will too! See you in the shop!

Here’s how it ended up once I’d added a title (which I took from one of the Lilac Whipers sheets).

Merly July 2017 Retreat info & sneak peeks

Hi Everyone,

Not long to go now until the 2017 Merly Retreat. I hope you all have seen the extra sneak peeks over on the Merly Crop/Retreat facebook page. This post will give you detail of each project that is included in the retreat and a list of anything else you may want to bring to the retreat to finish them. Each project will include a photo and detailed instructions for you to follow.

Here is the first layout project which I have called – Selfie.

File 29-06-2017, 14 52 03For this layout I have used the gorgeous “Keepsake” Kaisercraft collection. The layout features layers of film strips, tickets, vintage cameras and photography words & sayings. The cute kraft envelope holds a stash of hidden photos measuring 7 cm wide x 4.5 cm high. I have actually cut the envelope down so you could have taller photo’s in there if you keep to the envelope size of 10 cm high. The teeny tiny photo to the right of the layout in the film strip measures 3 cm wide by 2 cm high. This layout is all about capturing some fun moments. The larger photo measures 8.5 cm wide x 9 cm high, I have also used a vintage tone on my photos so they coordinate with the collection, but a coloured or sepia photo would also work and you could use a slightly larger photo if you wish.

Other items used on the layout are the EK Success Edger Punch – Round Binding Edge, Kaisercraft Autumn Leaves Decorative Die, (released July) the Sew Easy Straight Head Tool, Antique Gold Kaisermist,  these items & tools will all be available to use at the retreat.

Other items used that you will need to bring are  Crystal Lacquer, Or a similar product like Glossy Accents would also work.

Here is the second layout project which I have called: Life is measured by moments.

File 29-06-2017, 14 53 16For this layout I have used the beautiful “Golden Grove” Kaisercraft collection. My layout features beautiful fussy cut flowers, tiny buttercups and butterflies, splashes of Kaisermist, stitching, punching and diecut flourishes. I have used one colour coordinating photo measuring 8cm wide x 12.5cm high. A sepia or black & white photo would also work well.

Other items used on the layout are the Kaisercraft Swirl Flourish Decorative Die, MS PATP set Vintage Doily, Sew Easy Straight Head Tool, white, yellow & Apple Kaisermists. These items & tools will all be available to use at the retreat.

Other items used that you will need to bring are Crystal Lacquer, yellow ink pad, I have used the Kaisercraft Saffron mini ink pad.

Here is the third layout project which I have called: The creation of beauty is art.

File 29-06-2017, 14 54 04For this layout I have used the beautiful “Lilac Whisper” Kaisercraft collection. My layout features beautiful fussy cut flowers, tiny florals, a splash of  Kaisermist, diecut interlocking circles, stitching and one of the main features – the stamping around the edge. For this I have used the fabulous “Daydreamer” word stamp and created a message around the layout edge. I have used a colour coordinating photo measuring 9.5cm wide x 12cm high. A black & white photo would also work.

Other items used on the layout are the Sew Easy Straight Head Tool, Kaisercraft Daydreamer stamp set, black ink pad for stamping & stamp block, Kaisercraft Interlocking Circles Decorative Die, Denim Kaisermist. These items & tools will be available to use at the retreat. We do have the Daydreamer stamp on the website for anyone who would rather purchase their own.

Other items used that you will need to bring are Crystal Lacquer, or similar.

Here is the beyond-the-page 3 Panel Frame project.

19030381_10212297066529261_1268421374879663440_nFor this project I have used the lovely Kaisercraft “3 Piece (MDF) Panel frame” and to decorate it, I have used the gorgeous “Indigo Skies” Kaisercraft collection. Beautiful fussy cut flowers & butterflies adorn the frame and for extra detail I have used Kaisermist, cheese cloth & rhinestones, the three panels are then tied together using some beautiful blue organza ribbon. I have used three coordinating photo’s which measure 8.7cm wide x 12.5cm high. Black & white photos would also work.

Other items used on the project are Denim Kaisermist, Wood Glue, to glue the project together, these items will be available to use at the retreat.

Other items used that you will need to bring are paint brushes as there is a little bit of painting and (optional) a file/light sand paper if you want your MDF edges smooth. The white paint is included in the kit.

The Bonus project – Art plaque

File 29-06-2017, 15 01 40For this project I have used a BTP plaque and to decorate it, I have used the gorgeous Sage & Grace Kaisercraft collection. Beautiful fussy cut flowers from the blush paper and the gorgeous Rose Bouquet Foil paper, frames, Kaisermist and Chipboard letters create the words with a layer of Crackle Accents. This project could also be a room plaque, you could put a name on it, add a photo, mine started out as “Chrissy’s Craft Room” but I then decided to just add crafty words.

Other items used on the project are Candy & Charcoal Kaisermists, these will be available to use at the retreat.

Other items used that you will need to bring are paint brushes, as there is a little painting of the edges of the BTP, Crackle Accents or Crystal Lacquer & a pencil.

There will also be an extra layout project to purchase at the retreat for this project I have used the gorgeous bright and funky Bombay Sunset Kaisercraft collection. Here is a little sneak peek of the papers I have used. So bring extra photos that will coordinate.

bfcb25a9e81df9e0268c99ee6205efa7Any other craft item you like to take when you go to crops, if you do forget anything, don’t stress, there will be 74 other people there to borrow things from…….and a well packed shop 😀

Feel free to also bring your own extra projects to do. We all craft differently, so at the very relaxed Merly retreat you can all craft at your own pace, I personally wouldn’t finish any of the projects, I am a very slow crafter, I like to take my time, a layout from me can take up to a few weeks to finish, I enjoy putting the layout or project together, I like to move things around see how they look, take my time, for me it is not about finishing the layout or project it is about creating it.

Starting time of the retreat: The retreat will start at midday Friday (not before) please make your way to the Oakley Suite from midday on wards. Anyone arriving early, please feel free to have a tea or coffee at the training Centre, there are plenty of areas to relax and have a drink, please do not come over to the Oakley Suite before the time stated!! We have a lot to set up and want it to be perfect for you. The first hour will be about settling in, then lunch will start at 1pm-ish. I will give you more info on that when you arrive.

I think that is it for now, I am really looking forward to seeing you all.

Love Adore and Cherish with P S In Love You

Hi everyone,

Denise here with a lovely Beyond The Page Frame  project using the P S I Love You Kaisercraft collection.

063I started by using some sheets of Courtship paper. I drew round each individual frame then cut out the inside.032Then covered the front frames.

034Next, I took a rectangle of the paper and covered the back base of each

035 (2)Then I stuck one on top of the other once they were dry.

036 (2)My photos were matted on to some of the same paper but using the other side.062Next, I used some items from the Collectables Pack to embellish – these were layered using foam tape

069I also took some of the flowers from the Collectables and cut round them for more detail

070I used another of the papers Relationship to cut and punch some flowers butterflies and leaves.

A border sticker from the Sticker Sheet was mounted onto foam tape and placed underneath the bottom of the frames and one of the words ‘Adore’ was placed above the middle frame.

063Finally, I went round all the edges of the frames with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink. This was used throughout to ink around the edges of the embellishments and the frames were joined together with some pink ribbon which was tied at the back.

I really enjoyed making this home decor piece and hope you are inspired to have a play !

Wall hanging using High Tide collection

Today I am delighted to bring you this wedding frame made using the Kaisercraft 3D wall art round frame.

imageTo start with I painted the MDF with two coats of Gesso. Once I’d done this I inked the edges with Tim Holtz Frayed Burlap ink.

imageOnce the paint and ink was dry I used the Overboard sheet from the High Tide collection to cover the MDF palings. After  they were dried I added the hangers to the back of the frame with the twine to hang it from. This gave it the stability to work on the front of the wall art.

imageNext I took the actual photo frame and also covered it in gesso, Kaisercolour gold paint and finally a layer of white Deco crackle paint.  Once it was dry I didn’t feel the colour was quite right so I used KC Antique gold Mist and Aqua KaiserMist . I then added some light misting in the same colours to the paper covered palings to co-ordinate the two elements.

Once I was happy with the colours I  took some 10cm Burlap Roll and added in the main central cluster and the smaller top right cluster. I then layered cheesecloth over it.

imageOnce I added the photo behind the frame I then glued the frame to the Burlap and cheesecloth mats. Once dried I started adding the embellishments. I started with some cream rope on the large cluster adding Kaisercraft Paper Blooms in Iceberg and Ruby. I also added some mini Iceberg blooms to fill in the gaps with a couple of other flowers from my stash.

imageI then added some elements I had fussy cut from an embossed sheet from the High Tide 6″ paper pad : The starfish and the desert island in the top cluster. The two seagulls were cut from the same paper too. I also added the anchor, some seashells, another starfish and a couple of sentiments from the High Tide collectable pack within the clusters.

imageI finally added some wired pearls, wooden anchors and some Prima Art Stones with cracked shells to give the final beach-like theme. To finish it all off I added a twist of Dark Blue Hemp Twine.

imageI plan on giving the frame to my niece (the bride) for a wedding gift after marrying in the Dominican Republic at Christmas. Perhaps you could try to make one too?

Silent Night sweetie basket

Good morning everyone.

Today I hope you will be inspired to have a try at making this little basket that is very simple to make and can be decorated with a number of embellishments from the Silent Night sticker sheet or the collectables pack.. or indeed both!

finished-basketTo make the basket I took a 12″ sheet of Kaisercard Pebble Weave card stock and stamped it with the Holly Sprig from the Silent Night stamp set using the Kaisercraft Red Gum stamp pad.

bare-basketI then used the following template  and cut it  (where the dark cut lines are) in order to makethe shape into the basket. To do this simply gather up the sides and secure another strip of card for the handle with a brad to hold the shape.

cut-fileOnce you have the shape of the basket then the fun starts… the embellishing. To make the poinsettias I used the Decorative Die Layered Poinsettia       using the Fill The Stocking paper from the Silent Night Collection

I then used the Kaisermist Antique Gold spray which has a pretty greenish hue and the white Kaisermist and added lots of mist  to give them dimension. I finished each off with leaves made with the embossed green paper from the 6.5″ Silent Night paper pad (cut using the same die)….. and again misted with the White Kaisermist.  I added a large pearl in the centre of each flower for a final touch.

Once assembled I arranged all the poinsettias around a large central Coconut coloured Rose bloom. I then fussy cut several holly sprigs from the  Down The Chimney paper from the collection and finished it off with a few punched fern sprigs and some smaller rose blooms too.

close-upFinally I added a strip of holly from the Silent Night sticker sheet  and then lined the basket with some gold tissue paper.. and now all it is waiting for is some lovely gold wrapped sweetie treats.. ready for any Ambassadors ball! Lol. Alternatively you could fill it with baubles or even nuts.. the choice is yours!

I hope it inspires you to have a try!

Fancy Advent Calendar with Christmas Wishes

Hello everybody!

Emmy here today with a brand new Beyond the Page project to share. With only three months until the Christmas Season, it is time to start thinking about the decorations, the tree and the presents of course. Every year we add one new piece to our Christmas collection – a sparkly bauble, a nativity scene from a place far far away or something cute that the kids created at school. When I saw Kaisercraft’s Beyond the Page – Advent Calendar  I thought I have to have it! So, I decided to decorate it and use it for our December scavenger hunt this year.

And of course, the best collection to use is Kaisercraft’s “Christmas Wishes” (available at Merly Impressions online store). mi-advent-calendar-web-530For the background I used Fur Tree pattern paper. I decorated the tree using fussy cut decorations from a glossy paper from the Paper Pad and Rhinestones – Antique RoseChampagne and Lilacotp-advent-det-iFor the sentiment I used a card from the Christmas Card pattern paper. I layered it on top of a slightly larger piece of pattern paper and a die cut frame. I adhered the framed sentiment using Mounting Foam Tape.

otp-advent-det-jI used various pattern papers from the Paper Pad and the Paper Pack to cover the small boxes. After adhering the pattern paper to the box front, I inked all the edges with Tea Dye distress ink pad from Mini Distress Ink Pad Kit 11. Then I decorated them with Rhinestones and sticker words from the Sticker Sheetotp-advent-det-hI used the digits from the set, which I altered with Gold embossing powder. otp-advent-det-m-1To embellish the Advent Calendar further I used die cuts from the Collectables pack and stickers from the Sticker Sheetotp-advent-det-m-2 otp-advent-det-kTo create the presents I used pattern papers from the Paper Pad and organza ribbon.otp-advent-det-lI hope you enjoyed today’s post!

Have a very creative weekend!
