Inspiration for Chrissy’s Virtual Crop Sketch March 28th

Hi Chrissy’s Crafty Challengers,

Karen and Roxanne from the Merly Impressions Design Team have some inspiration for this weeks sketch challenge! We have both had a go at this challenge and here is what we have created:

Karen – I have chosen this sketch from the two Chrissy posted and I have used the Native Breeze collection for this page.

I was amazed how different this page looked to the others I made with this range, just goes to show how versatile Native Breeze is.

Super Star

As you can see I swapped out the hearts for stars and cut double the amount so that I could fold the top ones to give dimension.

Super Star detail 2

I also swapped out the two smaller photos for some journaling, not my handwriting but written with my Silhouette – I wish my handwriting was that neat.

Super Star detail 1

I am really excited to see your versions of this sketch – remember you can flip it, make elements larger or smaller – make your photo larger or smaller (as I have) and add or remove elements.  Just go for it and make it your own x

Roxanne- I decided to go with the sketch that has the large heart, see below. I choose this one because I have many “love” photo’s of me and my fiancé.

Many years ago I bought a lot of the MINT WISHES Collection by Kaisercraft and carted it all the way to Germany with me. So I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to use it! I also found this snow photo that I absolutely adore and thought it suited perfectly. I have titled this layout “Snow Love”.

I had been saving this stunning Uniquely Creative laser cut heart for the perfect project, which just happened to be this one! I have sprayed it with KAISERMIST SPRAY INK – WHITE 50ML to make it sparkle.Picture4I have used a large lace in the middle of my punched strip with some ribbon as the central strip from the sketch.

Amongst my stash I found many Die Cut leave and branch pieces, as well as this beautiful circle! I clustered these die cut pieces with the collectables in a similar place to on the sketch.   Picture2

I have also includes some white felt snowflakes and some blue-gray painted wooden snowflakes into my clusters for extra dimension.

Finally, I have embellished with my favourite- RHINESTONES – SILVER.

We hope we have inspired you to have a go at this wonderful challenge ! As Karen said, you can stick strictly to a sketch or you can change it up as much as you like. We saw many gorgeous designs entered into last weeks challenge and hope to see just as many, if not more this week!

Stay home, stay safe and crafts lots!

Favourite Day with Native Breeze

Hello, Karen here with my third page using Native Breeze.  I was particularly struck by the gorgeous Sundown paper in this range and wanted to use it to showcase a photo of my daughter and her partner, when they got engaged in Italy on a beach at sunset.

Favourite Day

I started by trimming 5ins from the top and .5 in from the right of the Sundown paper. I then stuck this to the top of a piece of Shadow Weave Kaisercard leaving a .25 border at the top and both sides.

Next I tore 4 in piece of the reverse of Eucalyptus paper, vertically – to give it an uneven top, trimmed .5 in from one side and added to the bottom of my page to give the illusion of a landscape similar to that of my chosen photo.

I double mounted my photo onto two pieces of paper taken from the 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad and added this to my page, slightly overlapping the torn piece at the bottom.

At the top right of my photo I tucked a phrase from the  Southern Sky paper with a ticket phrase from the Collectables Pack at the top right and bottom left of the  Southern Sky phrase.

Under my photo I placed two border stickers, a large circular phrase sticker and seven pennant stickers in an arc – all from the Sticker Book.

The cluster at the top left of my photo was made up of leaves, flowers and birds, from the Collectables Pack, along with a flower cut from Banksia Bouquet paper and two fern leaves, die cut using a die similar to this one and a piece of Eucalyptus paper .

My title ‘Favourite Day’, also from the Collectables Pack was added to the bottom left of my photo and as a final flourish I added a Rose Pearl to each of the banner stickers.

Favourite Day

This was the perfect paper for the perfect photo.

My Heart is Full with Grand Bazaar

Hi fellow crafters,

I was very excited to receive the GRAND BAZAAR collection to work on for this month. As soon as I saw it, I just knew I had the perfect photos to scrap using it! I think this collection is good for many different types of projects, from love photos, to adventures and childhood memories. It also very suitable for Male layouts and all sorts of greetings cards. This collection has many colours which can be used all together in a project, or separated to focus on just 2 or 3 colours. I found that my photos suited the more selective type of colours. For example, I have focused on the blue, red and white for this layout, as it matches the clothing I am wearing in the photo. The pattern of this collection also matches the skirt and the touches of yellow and brown compliment the trees and grass in the background of the photo. I also really like how the large “love” word sticker suits the spots on the Dalmatian puppies that I am expressing loving.

My Heart is Full Photo 1

To create this layout I have followed the steps below:

  1. Take CAREFREE and cut to seperate the 4 different strips. Trim the red and blue strips to 28.5 cm in length. Remove the two similar pages from PAPER PAD – GRAND BAZAAR COLLECTION and also cut into to separate strips. This time trim the of of each of the red and blue strips to 14 cm. Ink the edges of each strip in either DISTRESS INK PAD – AGED MAHOGANY or KAISERINK PAD – DENIM.
  2. Select the larger patterned strip with the the more reddish tones. Using a CRAFT KNIFE, cut along the yellow lines of the “four petal flower” shape, from the left side. Curl the “petals” up. To create a 3d flower, use the knife again on the same pattern on the right. However, this time only cut the tips of the “petals” and curl them up. FOAM TAPE the pre-cut “flower” at a 45 degree angle, in the middle of the one of the right hand side of the strip. My Heart is Full Photo 3
  3. Take the two smaller patterned strips with a blueish tone and use the craft knife to cut the tips of all three “flowers” in both strips. Take the other strips and cut out 6 “flowers” in total and foam tape in the middle of the other ones.
My Heart is Full Photo 2
  4. Trim KAISERCARD SNOW WEAVE CARDSTOCK to 12 x 12 inches and ink the edges using an ink blending tool and DISTRESS INK PAD – AGED MAHOGANY. Use CLEAR STAMP – LATTICE to stamp the background in DISTRESS INK PAD – AGED MAHOGANY and KAISERINK PAD – DENIM.
My Heart is Full Photo 4
  5. Take the 6 various sizes strips prepared earlier and adhere to your stamped cardstock as shown below:
My Heart is Full Photo 5
  6. Take one red and one blue sheet from the PAPER PAD – GRAND BAZAAR COLLECTION and trim to 10.1 x 15 cm. Use these to frame a photo with dimensions of 9.5 x 14.5 cm
  7. Add mounted photo to the middle of the layout on left hand side. Foam tape the bottom strips from TEXTILES and PERSIAN RUG to the top and bottom of the largest patterned strip. Embellish with COLLECTABLES – GRAND BAZAAR COLLECTIONSTICKER BOOK – GRAND BAZAAR COLLECTIONCURIOS – GRAND BAZAAR COLLECTIONMINI PAPER BLOOMS – ICEBERG and RHINESTONES – YELLOW.

Happy Birthday with Oh Happy Day

I have to say I am loving working with the Oh Happy Day collection and love the bright, cheery colours and the retro patterns on the papers which all have beautiful gold foiling.  I have used it to make a multi photo layout documenting Gracia’s 18th birthday, which was 8 years ago!

finished layout

For this layout I have used Snow Weave Kaisercard, Time to Party, Fire Cracker, Garlands and Star Light 12 x 12 papers, collectables, curios, sticker book6.5 x 6.5 paper pad and Mounting Foam Dots.

I started by cutting .5 in from two adjacent sides of the Time to Party paper, which I then stuck to the Snow Weave Kaisercard.  On top of this I added a piece of Fire Cracker which I had cut to 9ins square, finally to this I added a 8.5in square piece of Star Light.

I mounted my photographs onto some scraps of white card.  I used four 2in x 3in photos and one 3in x 4in.   These were added to the bottom of my paper with the bottom of the photo mounts lined up with the bottom of the Star Light paper.  Next I fussy cut the ‘Happy Birthday’ penant from the Garlands paper and added to the bottom of my page with a Curio at the point where the two words meet. A border from the 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad was added above the three right hand photos.

I stuck the ‘Wishing You The Best Day Ever’ sticker to a scrap of card, along with the pennants (both were from the sticker book)  and cut them out with a thin white border.   These were added to the top of my page with a star, also from the sticker book to either side of the pennants.

I typed my journaling onto a word document and adhered a page from the 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad onto a piece of A4 card and fed this through my printer to get the text printed onto the blue paper.

Once I had cut my journaling into strips and added to my page.  I subsequently realised I had ‘and Josh’ twice and have snipped off the second one.  I added a cluster of phrases to the top right of my photos using collectables, a pop out from the  6.5 x 6.5 paper pad and a ticket also cut from the paper pad, finishing off with a curio and star.

I completed my page by adding collectables and stickers to my photographs.

We would love to see what you have made with this collection and you can post your makes on the Merly Crop Facebook page.

Birthday Cards and Holder with Oh Happy Day

When Chrissy sent me the Oh Happy Day collection I knew, immediately, that I wanted to make some Birthday cards with it.  I like to make a quick holder if I make a set of cards to keep them together or, along with the set of cards, for a readily available present if I need one in a hurry.

Cut a piece of Lemonade Kaisercard to measure 7.5ins x 12 ins and score at 5.5 ins and 6.5 ins.

Cut two pieces of Bright Bursts measuring 5ins x 7in and one piece .75 ins x 7 ins.  Also, cut two pieces of Yey measuring 5 ins x 7 ins.

Adhere the Bright Bursts pieces to the front, back and spine of the folder.

Cut two pieces of ribbon (this was from my own supplies) and add to the left and right of the inside and on top of these glue the pieces of Yey .

From the remaining piece of Lemonade Kaisercard, cut two pieces 4 x 6.  Score at .25in, .75inm 5.25in and 5.75 ins, then score at .25 and .75 from the bottom.

Trim away the bottom corners and fold the bottom and sides to form pockets.  Adhere one to each side of the card holder approx .25in from the bottom.

Cut two pieces of Yay  2.75 x 4in and glue to the front of each pocket.

To decorate my cover I cut a rectangular piece of Snow Weave Kaisercard and an offset frame, also from Snow Weave Kaisercard.

I covered  these with some paper from the 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad. To finish the front of the card holder I decorated it  Collectables, stickers from the sticker bookCurios and ‘pop outs’ from the 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad

For the cards I used six 4 x 6 cards from my own supplies and a combination of papers and pop outs, from the 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad, stickers from the sticker book, Collectables, and fussy cut elements, also from the 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad.

Card 2

Card 3

Card 4

Card 5

Card 6

All six cards and envelopes fitted perfectly into the pockets in my card folder.

I think you will agree that the Oh Happy Day collection is perfect for making beautiful cards.  I did think I would give these ones away as a little gift for a friend but now am in two minds about that as I like them too much.

Creative Happiness

Hello Everyone,

Today I am sharing a layout that I have created using Kaisercraft’s CRAFTERNOON Collection. I was excited to use this collection! I think it is very versatile and it just perfect to capture and record those creative memories, especially for those photos that are a little more difficult to use with “just any collection”. The photo I have used in this layout is the perfect example, it shows a gorgeous creative moment between an cheeky uncle and his sweet niece. I was able to easily use a more mixed media style for this photo which also complements the busy patterned background paper. The CRAFTERNOON Collection incorporates a great mix of colours, again making it very versatile, and for this layout I have chosen to focus mainly on a peachy orange colour and black to perfectly contrast it.

To create this layout I have followed the instructions below:

  1. Cut DECOUPAGE – CRAFTERNOON COLLECTION to 27 x 27 cm. Randomly stamp CLEAR TEXTURE STAMP – GRID in KAISERINK PAD – LICORICE to the middle of the background. Using KAISERCOLOUR PAINT – BLACK 75ML and a wide paint brush randomly paint the middle of the background leaving some of the stamping visible. Distress the edges of the paper using a PAPER DISTRESSER.    20191027_173921
  2. Cut KAISERCARD INK WEAVE CARDSTOCK to 30.5 x 30.5 cm. Stitch a frame in peach coloured thread at ~1.5 cm in from the edge. Colour some TEXTURE PASTE with KAISERCOLOUR PAINT – ORANGE 75ML and transfer through a “Paint Splatter” Stencil (or any of your choice) onto the middle of your layout. Use MOUNTING FOAM TAPE to attach the main background of your layout onto the Ink Cardstock.20191027_173825
  3. Take a 10 x 14 cm photo and frame with 11.5 x 15.5 cm piece of KAISERCARD INK WEAVE CARDSTOCK. Distress the edges of the paper using a PAPER DISTRESSER. Stitch the frame in peach coloured thread on the edge of the photo. Foam tape photo to the centre of the layout. Embellish the top-right and bottom-left corners of the photo with peach/orange coloured doilies from PAPER PAD – CRAFTERNOON COLLECTION and CROCHET – CRAFTERNOON COLLECTION. Embellish further with COLLECTABLES – CRAFTERNOON COLLECTIONCURIOS – CRAFTERNOON COLLECTION and peach coloured twine. Take the bottom strip from EMBROIDERY – CRAFTERNOON COLLECTION, trim to 27 cm and distress the edges of the paper using a PAPER DISTRESSER. Attach this strip to a strip of KAISERCARD INK WEAVE CARDSTOCK with dimensions of 1.3 x 27 cm, that has been distressed. Foam tape these combined strips to a peach colour ruler from MEASURED – CRAFTERNOON COLLECTION which has been trimmed to 27 cm and distressed. Attach this combined strip ~0.5 cm from the bottom of the coloured background.  20191027_173710
  4. Embellish the layout with RHINESTONES – BLACK and add some light splattering of KAISERMIST SPRAY INK – BLACK 50ML to the layout.

Christmas Album with Starry Night

Hello, Karen here with my third project using Kaisercraft’s Starry Night collection.  This range has a navy and creamy grey pallet with gold foil highlights and is just perfect for a Christmas Album.  At the moment, I am totally besotted with Travellers Notebooks and decided that I would use that size for my album.  I cut 16 pieces of card measuring 4.5 x 8 and punched them with a two hole punch – just an ordinary office one, nothing fancy.  I have an A5 ringbinder, from The Range, which I am going to cut down to fit my pages.

I have used the Metallic Number Sheet for the numbers and a parcel tag (also from The Range), cut to 4ins tall on each page.  All patterned paper added to the tags measures 2in x 3in.

Page 1

I cut a piece of Radiant, 7.5ins x 3.5ins and added to one of my black pages. Onto my tag I added a piece of music paper measuring 2in x 3in and one of the phrases, from the 6.5 x 6.5 pad. To the right of this I placed a flower cut from Daring, a holly leaf from the Collectables and two pieces of gold bling strip.

Page 2

This time I cut a piece of Magic 7.5 ins x 3.5 ins and added to the adjoining page.  I added a piece from the 6.5 x 6.5 pad to a tag along with a number two pieces from the Collectables  and a sticker from the Sticker Book.

Page 3

Again I cut a piece of paper 7.5in x 3.5in and this time I used Glowing, after adding a piece of paper to my tag, form the  6.5 x 6.5 pad I used the Starry Night stamp set and gold ink to stamp the holly, added two stickers from the Sticker Book and the gold lines, also from the Sticker Book.

Page 4

After adding a piece of Glowing to my page I stamped a Poinsettia using the same stamp set and ink as I used above, adding Deep Yellow gems to the centre of the flower, added a phrase and sticker from the Sticker Book and die cut two flourishes using a sheet from the Gold and Silver Foil Paper pad.

Page 5
I started by cutting a piece of paper from the  6.5 x 6.5 pad  and added to the centre of my page.  In the top left and bottom right I added a flower which I fussy cut from Daring paper.  I topped my tag with a tag from the Collectables pack and a sticker from the Sticker Book. I added Deep Yellow gems to the centre of the flowers.

Page 6

Again I used a piece from the  6.5 x 6.5 pad  cut to 3.5 ins wide.  My tag was embellished with a star and Circle from the  Collectables pack, a scalloped square from the 6.5 x 6.5 pad and a border sticker from the  Sticker Book.

Page 7

This time I used a piece of Modern as the base of my page with a border sticker from the  Sticker Book at the top and bottom.  To my tag I added a large holly leaf from the Collectables pack and a couple of phrase stickers from the  Sticker Book.

Page 8

The base of this page was Magic with a border from the Sticker Book at the bottom.  My tag was embellished with two poinsettias made using the Starry Night stamp set and gold ink .  I added a pennant from the Collectables pack and a small phrase from the 6.5 x 6.5 pad.  I added Deep Yellow gems to the centre of the flowers.

Page 9

I started by using a piece of Striking as my base and then to my tag I added three strips and a banner from the Sticker Book and three little trees from the Wooden Flourish pack. The number was backed by a circle sticker.

Page 10

A piece of Modern was used as the base with a border of poinsettias cut from a page from the  6.5 x 6.5 pad.  I added a small piece of Magic to my tag with a phrase cut from one of the pages from the  6.5 x 6.5 pad, the circle underneath the number was also from this pad.  I used a Decorative Die to cut my poinsettia from the Gold and Silver Foil Paper pad and added a Deep Yellow gem to the centre.

I love my little Christmas mini and can’t wait to make some more pages.  Keep an eye on the Merly Crop Facebook page for the next set of pages.  I may even make a little ‘walk through’ video once I have finished it.

Kaisercraft DT Guest post – Enchanted, Dance Like no one’s watching

Hi Everyone,

I was so excited when asked by Melissa Kennedy to be a guest designer for July for Kaissercraft. I was also thrilled to be given the beautifully magical “Enchanted” Kaisercraft collection to create my project with, it features mystical fairytale imagery of trees, mushrooms & hidden doors.

PAPERS: Enchanted collection: P2784 Whimsy|P2786 Mystical|P2787 Fairytale|P2788 Idyllic|P2790 Starry-eyed|P2791 Utopia|CT966 Collectables|PP1072 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad

KC PRODUCTS: CD325 Ruby Kaisercard|SB711 Red Rhinestones|T303 Foam Tape

As soon as I saw this collection and the beautiful Whimsy paper I knew how I wanted my layout to turn out and I had the perfect photo in mind. I started by cutting out the trees from three of the Whimsy papers and layering them up, I wanted to give the illusion of looking through the trees. I matted these onto the reverse of the Idyllic paper and then onto the Ruby Kaisercard with just a little bit of the cardstock showing top and bottom of the layout. I printed out my photo so it fitted perfectly in the centre.IMG_2441 (2)

I love stitching on my layouts, so added some hand stitching at the top and bottom with colour coordinating thread. I fussy cut all the beautiful elements from the Starry-eyed & Utopia papers and the door from the Mystical paper.

IMG_2942 (2)

The beautiful bright red flowers were fussy cut from the 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad. I then started to add all the elements around my layout, tucking them in between the tree layers to form little clusters. I also love the info strips you get at the bottom of all the Kaisercraft papers – they often have beautiful sayings on them and they also make great titles. I added one to the bottom of my layout.

IMG_2947 (2)

I added foam pads to some to give height and dimension.

IMG_2941-1 (1)

To finish off I added some rhinestones to the centres of some of the fussy cut flora.

IMG_2947 (2)

The Enchanted Collection is so beautiful – its suitable for projects featuring children playing, strolls through the woods, or just your favourite outdoorsy photos and much more.

I hope you have enjoyed my first project as a Guest Designer for Kaisercraft and hope you are inspired to use your beautiful Enchanted collection.

Happy crafting!!

Mr & Mrs with Two Souls

Hi everyone,

Denise here again with my second layout for this month using the lovely Two Souls collectionIMG_9002-R-B

I used a sheet of Concrete Kaisercard to start then cut down a sheet of the beautiful lacy Tuxe paper to 11.5 inches square. I distressed all the edges with a paper distresser then adhered it to the base card.

I usually like to choose some papers from the paper pad to mat behind my photo and find some border and ribbon type strips from the back of the paper pad book.

I love to sew on my layouts so, using a sheet of matching paper from the 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad, took a heart cross stitch template and pierced the holes, then stitched with grey thread.

I layered up the paper pad papers then placed my photo on top layered with foam tape.

There are lots of lovely flowers and sentiments in the Collectables pack so I chose some of those and used to embellish around the layout, together with some items from the Sticker BookIMG_8978

More beautiful additions to the range are these curios, which I love and like to dot them around the page.

Curios - Two Souls Collection

Finally I went around the edges of some of the collectables with a silver pen from my stash to highlight them.

Thank you for popping by and happy crafting !

Precious Moments with Rosabella

Hi Karen here,

With the first of March’s projects and this month Chrissy gave me the stunning Rosabella collection to work with. I totally adore its mixture of pinks and grays.

For this layout I have used Snow Weave and Concrete Weave cardstock, Miss Classic, Beauteous and Angelic papers, Collectables, 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad, Curios, Clear Stamps, KaiserInk pad in Plum and mini ink pad in Vine.

I started by cutting 1inch from one side of my Snow Weave card and lightly drew a pencil line .5 in from the top and bottom.  Using KaiserInk pad in Plum and the lace border from the Clear Stamps set I stamped the border three times, onto the smooth side of the card, along the top and bottom of making sure the scalloped edge of the stamp lined up with the pencil line.  Next I fussy cut the scalloped edge of the stamped border and adhered this to the centre of the Concrete Weave cardstock.

I trimmed the Miss Classic paper to 10 ins wide and 8 ins tall and added to the top of the stamped card.  Onto this I added a piece of Beauteous (text side showing) which measured 8.5in x 6.5 ins.

The white lace from the  Angelic paper was perfect to add across the centre of my page.

Next I mounted my 7 x 5 in photo onto two pieces of paper from the  6.5 x 6.5 paper pad and added this to the centre of my page.

I used Dove Gray Stazon and the  Clear Stamps set to stamp five roses some leaves and some butterflies onto a piece of white card.  Then dabbed my Plum KaiserInk pad  and Vine. mini ink pad onto a craft mat and added a little water then used these to paint the flowers, leaves and butterflies. Once dry I fussy cut them out and added to the top right and bottom left of my page, after cutting a quote from the Angelic paper and adding to the top right of my photo.

I finished my page by adding quotes and butterflies from the Collectables pack and one of the pretty Curios.

I love this collection it is so pretty.
