Lil’ Cutie

This little cutie is my friend’s daughter – she is truly adorable and a little minx! Whilst looking through some old photos, I spotted those amazing curly pigtails – how cute!

For my embellishment feature, I firstly stamped the lamp image in brown. I also lightly inked the area in Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and added a little script stamp.

I layered a frame and die-cut over some bandage which had been inked to match. You’ll notice that the Cherish title has been gently inked in blue and green which gives it a lovely professional look.

I cut around the flowers and leaves of the die-cut paper to drop in the photos and journal card.

Lastly, another acetate hot air balloon and tag.

With the weather being so poor this year and we’ve been really busy at home, we have not got out much (and so a distinct lack of new photos for me). So I browsed through my old photos and came across some that I had not scrapped before.

As members of the National Trust, we’re often found at various houses at the weekend. Our local house has beautiful gardens and the kids seemed truly enthralled by what was inside.

I experimented with just layering papers over a plain grey background. Scrunching them slightly before sticking them down loosely to give them a lovely layered effect. You may have spotted my recent attraction to vellum – I just love the light feel it gives and the way you can see below.

I layered up several images from the Collectables  and you may notice that I have a new toy – Silouhette! I recently sold my Cricut and cartridges which was enough to buy me the new machine. I am still working out how to make the most of it, but I’m sure you’ll be the first to know!

Zip it Up!

Zips are very much en vogue at the moment. My friend gave me a little bunch of lovely zips recently so I thought I’d put one to good use.

Adding a zip to a layout is so much easier than sewing one in! Just make a cut into your main paper – I rolled the edges slightly so that they would stay open. Then I applied double-sided tape to each side before sticking down the zip. I then added strips of paper to cover the zip as well as another piece to form an aperture. You can fill these apertures with flowers, stickers or die-cuts.

I love the soft colours of the Periwinkle collection and wanted a soft look to my layout. I stamped the large flower images on the stamp set in a brown colour. The flowers are designed link together so you stamp more than one image to create a background. The gorgeous paper flowers in toning colours add a lovely delicate touch. I always use leaves to really help the flowers pop!

To create some depth around my focal point, I used a mask and texture paste before layerng the Newsprint acetate sheet. There are lots of gorgeous frames to choose from in both the collectables, stickers and gloss paper – I picked out a couple to use as a mat and my title. Did you spot those lovely sparklets? They are lovely gems which look like they have been sugar coated.

Lastly, I cut out some of the sweet hot air balloons from the Hot Air Balloon Acetate and positioned them so that they float up the page.

In the Frame

I have been playing with the very pretty Periwinkle this month. It has soft hues which is perfect for the Autumn and compliments so many types of photos.

Actually, my photos are from our summer holiday in Cornwall and that rare photo of my DD and DH together (he does try to avoid the camera at all costs!). Incidentally, I converted my photos using which is a brilliant on-line photo editing site – so easy to use that I’ve almost stopped using Photoshop!

I love the various frames that are on the some of the papers and die-cuts. I used the 6 1/2″ paper pad and cut out several frames to go along the bottom of my layout. They’re perfect for little details.

For the main part of the layout, I went for a central, symmetrical design using a large frame as my photo mat before spreading flowers, stickers and die-cuts. I used several types of flowers and leaves that I had in my stash (for a very long time). Just mix whatever you can find layering as you go. To add a little more texture, I ripped up some bandage before sticking everything down.

I am a huge fan of envelopes and I’m currently obsessed with velum. This tiny envelope is a simple 2 1/2″ square of velum which is scored  diagonally to form the envelope. I tucked in the overlay transparency – just love how it is all see-through.
